4th July it might be, but Steven was British so it was a normal day for him. Not that he had anything against the holiday. One of his favorite people was American, after all.

But on the island there were plenty who weren't American - or even from Earth at all for that matter - and those who even if they were might find themselves with the day off and looking for something to do.

So Steven was at work, cheerful as ever. It was quieter than usual but that was all right. It gave Steven time to think and research new ideas for exhibits as he sat in his usual spot behind the Welcome Desk.

And what about a visit from another of Steven's favourite people? This one of the non-American (and non-body-sharing) variety.

"Hello, you," he greeted.

Steven smiled from ear to ear. "Hello, you. My favorite part of the day already?"

"If you mean lunch," Watts knew full well he meant lunch. "Then yes, it is."

"I mean you bringing lunch," Steven said, because that was an important distinction. Since they were on the topic, Steven put out the sign that he was taking his lunch break. "Otherwise it's just food. Nice, but not as nice."

"Lunch is not capable of this," Watts agreed, leaning over to give him a quick peck on the lips.

"It's not," Steven agreed, grinning at him. "Tried it once. Had a very confused sandwich on my hands, don't mind telling you."

That got a bark of laughter out of Watts at the mental image as he put his hat down on the desk with a flourish and held out his arm for Steven to take. "Good thing for you that I am here, then."

Steven took the offered arm gladly, smiling at how he got that laugh out of Llewellyn. "Very good thing. Seeing your handsome face always brightens my day. Especially when it's smiling."

"Flirt," Watts said. "And thank you." Because compliments were a legitimate part of flirting, after all.

"Flirting's easy when it's you," Steven said. "You're handsome all the time, for example. Just different sorts is all."

Well now Watts was curious. "Different sorts, hm? Do tell."

[hasaknightjob]

"There's smiling, as we've mentioned," Steven said, starting to list things off easily. "Then there's thoughtful. Concentrating, like when you're practicing your piano. Relaxed, like when you're reading a book. Then another kind of relaxed when you're doing your baking and getting lost in kneading your dough. Formal, when you're all dressed smart because we're going somewhere nice. Informal when we're in comfortable clothes and sat together on the couch - "

Steven could go on.

"You have given this some thought," Watts said, beaming at him. "I didn't realize."

[hasaknightjob]

"I like looking at you," Steven said. "As often as I can. Sort of my favorite subject of study."

[pocketpretzels]

"I thought Ancient Egypt was your favourite," Watts said.

[hasaknightjob]

"You're better at kissing than pyramids are," Steven replied with a grin.

[pocketpretzels]

"Hopefully also mummies," Watts added drily.

[hasaknightjob]

"Can't say I was ever tempted to try it," Steven said, making a face. "Part of you being handsomer as well."

[pocketpretzels]

"I'm sure some of them must have been considered handsome in their day." Or maybe not, what with all the inbreeding. "Regardless, I am honoured it is me you prefer." And naturally that had to be emphasized with a peck on the cheek.

[hasaknightjob]

"Even if it was still their day," Steven said, "It'd still be you I prefer. Handsomest by far."

Well that deserved a pause long enough for a proper kiss. Had to be done.

In which case Steven had to kiss him back. Horrible fate there, needing to pause to kiss one's beau.

Truly, how did they manage?

"You're my favourite subject as well," Watts informed him.

[hasaknightjob]

It had been hours since they last saw one another!

"Thank you, mine as well."

[pocketpretzels]

"Your smiles being a particular favourite topic of mine," Watts admitted as they resumed their walk.
