The Magpie Emporium, Monday [8/7]
Vi...hadn't actually noticed anything happening over the weekend because that would've required actually leaving Steph's place at some point, which had not been happening last week. Like at all. Besdies, she'd made it in for her shift, what more could anyone ask for?
And, no, Vi would not be listening to anyone who tried to explain that work-life balance didn't actually work like that.
Especially not Saffron who at this point was the most neglected cat in the multiverse and willing to let everyone know it.

Especially not Saffron who at this point was the most neglected cat in the multiverse and willing to let everyone know it.

Steph came in after her workshop and after having listened to the radio, bearing sandwiches and a gallon of lemonade and a thoughtful expression on her face.
"Saffron forgiven you yet?"
Probably not.

"Pretty cool. Got to drive a human-sized version of Little Bot's pirate ship costume and got my ass kicked every time," Steph said with the kind of sulky nonchalance that could only come from losing at racing games a lot. She came over to give Vi a kiss on the cheek and set down the jug of lemonade, because that thing was getting heavy. "Okay day so far here?"
no subject
Vi reached out to pull Steph in closer. "Aw, that sucks," she said with marginally more sympathy than Saffron was getting. "It's been pretty quiet so far."
no subject
"The worst. My ego will never recover." Steph leaned into her, slinging an arm around her waist. "So apparently we missed out on more weird shit over the weekend."
Not that she sounded sorry about it.
no subject
"Did we?" Vi slung her arm around Steph's shoulders. "Mustn't have been very important then."
no subject
"I mean, nobody was having battles in the street or anything, so..." Steph shrugged, as much as she could while leaning against Vi anyway. "Not the really bad kind of weird. Something about people being different versions of themselves again. Like, from the future."
Again, not sorry she'd missed it.
"Well, okay, maybe 'not the bad kind' is an assumption."
no subject
Was Vi going to let herself consider any implications of that whatsoever? Nope.
She leaned in to kiss Steph's temple. "Only version of you I care about is the one right in front of me."
no subject
Steph closed her eyes and grinned for a moment. "What, like the version of me who's a big famous rock star wouldn't even be a little bit interesting to you?"
Guess who else was stubbornly refusing to consider those implications, because that way led to endless spiraling about what-ifs and ways things might have gone differently

The power of their combined refusal was strong. "I'm sure she's happy with her super hot roadie."
no subject
"The hottest," Steph agreed, laughing softly. "Especially if she sweeps other me off her literal feet every time someone throws their bra on stage. If she isn't happy with that, she's clearly an inferior version."
no subject
"Exactly," Vi said, nudging her nose against Steph's. "So why would I need to worry about her when I've got you?"
no subject
"And I am totally fine with being had by you," Steph assured her, pulling her a little closer. "Take that however you will."
She knew you, Vi.
no subject
Vi grinned and leaned in to kiss her properly. "Oh, I intend to take you every way I can."
no subject
"Haven't you done that enough already the last few days?" Steph asked, laughing against her lips as she wrapped an arm around her neck.
Yes, she knew the answer to that was 'no,' but what fun was it if she didn't ask?
no subject
No fun at all! "Are you suggesting I might ever get enough of you?"
no subject
"Just that you might need a break every now and then," Steph replied, nudging her nose against Vi's.
no subject
Vi snorted. "Sounds fake."
no subject
"Oh right, my mistake." Steph stretched up to try and kiss Vi on the tip of her nose. "My girlfriend has the stamina of a god, basically."
no subject
Vi grinned, wrinkling her nose at Steph. "I just have a lot of energy."
no subject
"Believe me, I've noticed." Steph aimed an affectionate poke at her midsection. "And I'm not complaining about it either but damn, let a girl sleep every now and then."
no subject
Vi pretended to fold over from the force of the poke. "Didn't realise you were having trouble keeping up."
no subject
"I can keep up," Steph retorted, and kissed the top of her head while she was pretending to succumb to that oh-so-powerful poke. "Just don't want to give you a subpar experience because I needed a power nap."
no subject
"You can always let me know when you need a nap," Vi said, then added. "And to rest those noodle arms."
no subject
Steph sighed very loudly, smiling, and snapped her teeth just beside Vi's ear.
"You are very considerate of my needs, that's true."
no subject
That earned Steph a visible shiver and Vi needing a second for her comeback. "Gotta take care of my girl."
no subject
Steph chuckled, low and a little bit smug. "Nobody else I'd rather have take care of me, babe."
no subject
Vi licked her lips. "Glad to hear it."
no subject
"I try to take care of my girl too," Steph added, and leaned in to kiss the skin behind Vi's ear.
no subject
Vi shivered again, leaning in against Steph. "You're pretty great at that."
no subject
"I do my best." Steph trailed kisses slowly down the side of her neck before burying her face at the crook of it, just breathing in her scent. "You deserve it so fucking much."
no subject
Vi wrapped her arms around Steph in a tight hug. "So do you."
no subject
"We may both be a little biased." Steph curled into the hug, both hands settling at Vi's waist before she fully wrapped her arms around her. "But that's okay. Love you."
no subject
"Love you too," Vi replied softly, before archly adding. "And I'm not biased at all. I have the best judgement."
no subject
"You're so attractive when you're being modest," Steph said wryly. "And what if I wanted you to be biased in my favor?"
no subject
"In that case I will throw down on your behalf no matter what," Vi promised, because obviously no situation would ever crop up where that might actually be a hard choice. Obviously.
no subject
Steph laughed and put a hand to her forehead, pretending to swoon. "My very own hero. Can you blame me for wanting to be your favorite?"
no subject
Vi grinned at her. "You're definitely my favourite girlfriend."
no subject
"And RIP to all those other girls pining after you," Steph replied, disengaging one arm just enough to one-handedly fumble the jug of lemonade open and pour them a couple of cupfuls. "Because you're my girl and I'm not giving you up."
no subject
"I wouldn't let you if you tried," Vi said, reaching for a cup and offering it to Steph.
no subject
"As if I'd try," Steph scoffed, but she took the cup and raised it to Vi in a toast anyway. "So here's to being stuck with me. Deal."
no subject
"Exactly, it's a deal," Vi agreed, beaming.
