Tino was telling Summer all about his weekend, which sounded enough like any other weekend that Tino would tell her about that she started to become increasingly uncertain as to whether or not, from what he was telling her, he had actually been affected by the weekend at all. She tried to ask some revealing questions to help her pin it down a little more, but to no avail. Each answer seemed as frustratingly vague and uncertain as the last.

So finally, she just straight up and asked how old he was now and how old he was during the weekend, to which he just gasped and got all offended that she would even ask him something like that, and then he gave her the cold shoulder for the rest of the shift.

Which, really, was Summer preferred state of being behind the bar, so it all kind of worked out, really.

"Yeah, that's one of the big ones out of the way," Jesse said, wry. "And so far it doesn't look like he's planning to run away again."

"Well, I mean," said Summer, "in my experience, running away isn't something that's usually planned, but I know, not helpful, I get what you're saying. And that's good too. Sounds like he could use the break, anyway."

And maaaaaybe the attentions and affections of a certain other cute redhead in the bar that wasn't the bartender, but Summer would give it at least a little bit of time before she started poking Jesse about that. After all, she'd only just started coming back to the bar recently, she'd hate to send her off again so quickly by obnoxiously tossing glitter at her every five seconds.

Look, Jesse had been in the care of gaslighting therapists or on the run from a shadowy government agency for basically her entire life. She was going to need a few months (years?) to get a grasp on the concept of having a crush on someone.

"Yeah, they've done a number on his head," Jesse said. "So I'm trying to make things easy for him while he's here, you know?"

Summer nodded a little. "I know I don't need to say it," she said, with a slightly warning tone, "buuuuuuuuut...."

She dragged it out and looked expectantly at Jesse to see if she needed to finish saying it, but, just in case, she at least continued with, "If you need anything...."

She should at least be able to pick it up from there, right?

Jesse laughed softly. "I know," she said. "But for now, I think I have it handled."

The narrative felt the need to clarify that she meant 'the general situation' and 'making sure Bucky took it easy', not 'whatever would happen if she ever figured out they were flirting'.

Oh. Oh. But Jesse! 'Whatever would happen if she ever figured out they were flirting' was where Summer would absolutely shine.

"You usually do," Summer allowed, with a small nod and a fond smile. "But still. You always....well, okay, sometimes...know where to find me."
