Caritas; Wednesday [07/10].

Tino was telling Summer all about his weekend, which sounded enough like any other weekend that Tino would tell her about that she started to become increasingly uncertain as to whether or not, from what he was telling her, he had actually been affected by the weekend at all. She tried to ask some revealing questions to help her pin it down a little more, but to no avail. Each answer seemed as frustratingly vague and uncertain as the last.

So finally, she just straight up and asked how old he was now and how old he was during the weekend, to which he just gasped and got all offended that she would even ask him something like that, and then he gave her the cold shoulder for the rest of the shift.

Which, really, was Summer preferred state of being behind the bar, so it all kind of worked out, really.

"Very colorful ponies," Stark said, nodding. "Nobody has warned you about any of this yet?"

Wow, Fandomites were getting lax.

"I have been warned of many things," Remy said. "Ponies weren't on the list."

That he could recall, anyway. He was busy being so blasé when he first arrived.

"I've never been a pony," Stark said. "If that helps. I have been a koala."

Not super comforting, no.

"Not sure that'd be better," Remy said. "I like having thumbs."

"I didn't mind much at the time. I just held things. And people. And ate a lot of leaves when I wasn't sleeping. One time Anakin let his daughter dye me several colors."

"The ponies have only been for a weekend, at least? But no thumbs has been a problem for people. I'm happy to provide thumbs when necessary."

"No offense, homme, but I tend to prefer to be able to provide for myself." Growing up on the streets and then in the Thieves Guild did that to a person. "Not sure even being dyed fun colors would make up for it."

Though he did like a colorful look. Sneaking through the dark in bright fuchsia just added an interesting level of difficulty to things.

"The colors were still there when I changed back. Stay away from Anakin and his children should you change. If you can. The island may not let you. And...that's fair, wanting to be able to do things yourself. Of course. It just doesn't always happen."

Especially in a place when you could become a tiny helpless creature without warning!

"I find ways to make it happen," Remy said grumpily.

Look. The woman he loved with all his heart had once left him for dead in Antarctica. This boy came by his trust issues the honest way.

That's what they all said, Remy. And then they turned into tiny fuzzy critters with no thumbs!

"Good luck," Stark said. And he meant it. "It might never even happen. I think there are some people here who haven't ever changed into animals."

And if Stark knew that about Rogue he'd have bought Remy a very strong drink. Left to die somewhere cold? Insult to injury!

She even blamed it on his own self-loathing later. Which, like. . . . wasn't wrong necessarily, but still!

"I'll have to ask them what their secret is," Remy mused. "Tony Stark lives here, he must've come up with some kind of de-animaling machine or something."

Remy was not above stealing such a thing!

Wow, Rogue. Aggressive.

"Tony has been a cat, I think. Steve is a dog right now, or he was on Monday. I think if Tony knew how to turn him back he would. But maybe if someone suggested he should try to make such a thing..."

Of course Steve Rogers turned into a dog. Remy had never heard of anything more obvious and yet so ridiculous.

"Might be someone should do that," Remy mused. He would also be mentioning it to Forge next time he saw the man. "And this weekend . . . people turned old?"

Wait until Remy found out what kind of dog, too!

"This weekend people were versions of themselves from 20 years from now," Stark said. "But not everyone. It was...confusing."

And had lead to some very unfortunate Saturday mornings.

"And . . . no one knows why. Or why it went away?"

"We almost never know why. Things just happen here."

Surely you could understand that, Remy, as a man from Marvel comics!

Look. When everyone ended up fighting a never ending battle on the edge of a nonexistent universe with no memory of their home universe of 616, there was at least a reason.

It was a ridiculous reason, but it existed.

"That is . . ." Remy shook his head. "I don't have the word in English or French for what that is."

'The island did it' was a reason. Sort of.

"You learn to live with it, eventually," Stark said. "Usually. Some things are more startling than others."

Admittedly, "capricious sentient island" was not not a thing where Remy came from.

"What is the most 'startling' thing you have experienced, homme?"

"Waking up as a woman," Stark said. "Is always startling. Not as much as it was the first time but being the wrong shape is...disconcerting."

Don't worry, Remy, you'd probably be a pretty girl at least?

"But this weekend...I didn't expect to wake up with someone horrified to find me in her bed."

"No one wants that," Remy said. As though it hadn't happened to him pretty often actually, in his youth.

(And his less-youth. Boy had deflowered a nun at least once.)

"I think I might like being a woman for a little while. Just a little while, though."

"She was happy enough to have me there Friday night," Stark said. "So Saturday was...unexpected. But she wasn't herself but I still was."

"Being a woman is...interesting," he allowed. "I don't mind so much as I did at first, now that I know it goes away after a few days."

"Just . . . how often does that happen? Waking up in a different shape?"

"I've been a woman twice since I came back," Stark said. "Last year and the year before. It hasn't happened this year..."

Which was, if he thought about, a little worrisome. Did that mean it could happen any day now?

"And the ponies have been twice since I came back as well, I think. And I've been a koala a few times but that usually happens when you're awake. Just turning into an animal. Often at very inconvenient times." Or very funny ones.

"So...regularly but not too regularly? There are some things that happen very consistently and many many others that don't."

That was too many times, Stark. Remy was refusing to process how many times that was.

"Got back from where?"

"I went to the school here and then I went home, to my other home. To Moya. She's the ship I lived on before I was here. And then I came back and then I left again but I came back...it's been 4 years now. I think."

Stark frowned a little. That seemed a very long time and a very short time all at once. Maybe he should have been marking the years, somehow.

"A spaceship," he clarified. "I'm from space but not the same parts of space as other people here."
