THE WEDDING, Our Lady of Fandom Island Church, Late Saturday Afternoon

The day was finally here.

Fandom appeared to be cooperating: all the evidence of Friday's paint rain had gone away overnight. Envy's team had of course had a plan B about what to do to alter the theming of the wedding ceremony if they hadn't, but they'd been glad to put away the paint cans and just follow plan A instead, as -- well, planned.

So now the inside of Fandom's little church was decked in tasteful white flowers in extravagant numbers, with little bits of greenery to make them really pop. Whichever direction anyone happened to point a camera lens towards, they would always find the background pleasing and elegant. And they should appreciate that, because one person on the team had spent the past two weeks engineering and planning just that.

There was also a string quartet, playing something classical and light as people entered and found their seats.

And, of course, there was a smattering of music reporters sitting in the back, while one of Envy's assistants explained to them with endless patience and a soft, hushed tone that yes, their exclusives were still exclusive and not in conflict with each other when each of them were from a different universe entirely.

Everything was just about ready for the Adams-Wiggin wedding.

Find a seat! There's no bride's side and groom's side type split, sit where you want.

Peter first, then Envy. There is no other wedding party, because these two can still do something in an understated way.

The string quartet was of course now playing a pleasing version of something appropriate from Envy's back catalogue.

The music faded off, perfectly timed.

The officiant, dressed in a decidedly secular suit and smiling beatifically, addressed the room:

"We are gathered here today, not to witness the beginning of what will be, but rather what already exists. We do not create this marriage, because we cannot. We can and do, however, celebrate with Natalie Adams and Peter Wiggin --" A little tidbit there for those keeping track of whether or not Envy had ever made any official changes to her name (yet). "-- the joyful occurrence of private commitment that has already taken place in their lives, and the public commitment to each other they make today."

Any hecklers will find themselves swiftly escorted out by Peter's security team, on Envy's orders.

Shoutout to the Annie/Diego wedding I used to figure out what threads we needed, because I have once again slept like trash because of the weather and needed the help.

Anyway, WOO WEDDING FINALLY AFTER 4 YEARS OF ENGAGEMENT. All are welcome, and there's the party later for those that don't give a damn about the ceremony but like free drinks and finger food!

Well, 'no wedding party' - there was a faintly annoyed-looking Suriyawong lingering in the general direction where a best man would be. Peter wasn't taking the look personally; Suri's face just seemed to have gotten stuck that way.

But his parents weren't here - that was something for a different day. He'd expected that would cool the completely unnecessary nerves (it wasn't like he expected Envy to run away after four years of engagement), but as he stepped out onto the aisle, he found they were very much uncooled.

Ender had promised he would be here. So he was. Quietly, holding Val's hand with one hand and Bantha's with the other, until he had to usher them into their seats.

Well. This about looked as one would expect.

There was no maid of honour type person in the general direction one could have been found, so perhaps Suri's grumpy face was pulling double duty? He'd certainly had to deal with the both of them for long enough to qualify.

While Nicholas and his team did their last checks on her dress, Envy watched Peter from where she was still hidden from view, and was struck by --

They weren't nerves, as such. Something deeply sentimental, though. Like a memory or a handful of them, all coming back to the surface. She could only blame the island.

A long time ago, they'd been just kids.

Liliana didn't particularly care about weddings, especially for people she didn't know, but she did enjoy spectacle, as well as Being Seen ^TM. Throw in a potential for drama, and, well, how could she stay away?

Clad in something more Earth-standard, Liliana took a seat and looked about with unabashed - if generally amused - curiosity.

And Ignis, of course, would be joining her, and there was quite a lot to be said when one's partner and paramour aesthetic already so perfectly matched your own.

Ignis, typically, had even less interest of the weddings if people they didn't know, although he may be a bit more interested than one might suspect in gaining perspective on this spectacle through Liliana's eyes than usual.

Albeit for no particular notable reasons, mind you, of course.

Well, upon finding out that Peter and Envy were getting married on the island today, there really was only one thing that Karla could do. And that was leave Glacia in the capable hands of her Consort and Steward, and take a portal to Fandom to see it finally happen.

Wearing a sharp suit with her Ebon-Gray glittering at her throat and a blue cane on one hand - Warren, Raven, and Jaenelle had done what they could, but witchblood was witchblood - she made her way to a seat.

Was she a little sad there wasn't a family section she could crash and silently dare Peter to remove her from? Yes. Ah well. She was supposed to be on her best behavior anyways.

"Kiss kiss," Karla said, taking a seat next to the Skywalker crew. "Hello, Andrew. What an absolute surprise it is to see me here, huh?"

What reasons could there be?

"I think they talked to Tony and Steve about the appropriate number of flowers for decor, though they stopped shy of a chandelier full of them," Liliana murmured to him, fingers stroking over the inside of his wrist. Also for no reason.

"Extravagance appears to be the overall theme. I approve."

Much to the relief of the bride and groom, truly.

Kamala wondered if there was a guest list or whatever for a rock star’s wedding but ended up NOT having to sneak in. She was wearing the outfit to her brothers wedding as that was the most appropriate dress she had for the occasion.

But really she was there to take a picture of Envy in her wedding outfit and send it to Carol.

Arden had never been to a wedding before so all future ones would have a lot to live up to, goddamn. But while Kamala was here to troll Captain Marvel, Arden was here to troll Kamala.

The magic of friendship.

"So tell me all about how you're taking a ton of pictures for Carol's benefit," Arden said.

Sweetly.

“Sometimes when you’re one of the most powerful people in the universe? You need someone to remind them that they’re still human,” Kamala said with a laugh. “Deep down I know she loves it.”

Despite the texts she got begging her to stop.

One foot in front of the other. Peter's poker face worked overtime; he didn't swallow, he didn't falter.

Just one foot in front of the other, until he was there. At the altar, in his despicably well-tailored suit, which suddenly felt like a lie as much as anything about him ever had in their early days in Haiti.

"Yes," Ender said, wryly but also fondly, "You've taken me by surprise."

"Karla!!" Bantha enthused, grabbing for her. Valentine, who was clearly entering her teenage years early, rolled her eyes at him.

And then there was Envy, gliding gracefully into the aisle and then down it in her gown, rococo through a Vivienne Westwood lens, with yet more white flowers embroidered all the way down it. In comparison, the bouquet in her hands was small and simple, some more green things around some dark irises, to complement Peter's suit. The flowers was just an accessory, see: Envy was the centerpiece of the entire room.

Her poker face was impeccable, too. Her heart thumped in her chest with every step like she was walking a tightrope (one she'd been on since she'd been eleven), but it didn't show.

She'd been on too many stages, before.

And Peter watched her walk towards him, his eyes not on the dress, or the flowers, or even the incredible job her team had done with her hair, but on her face. Envy Adams had changed a great deal over the years, but her eyes were still those of the same girl who had rolled her eyes and hung out - mildly - in his room for all the years his life kept changing and he kept falling over and tripping over his own two stupid feet and--

He sucked in a heavy breath.

And Peter Wiggin had been the boy who showed up in her room and rolled his eyes at her relationship woes, and then went on whining about whatever big world peace level issue was ailing him at that particular moment.

She'd liked him, dearly, always.

So this made sense.

And then she made it across her tightrope, and came to a stop beside him, and smiled, tiny and private and just for him.

And without his explicit say-so, Peter's mouth did the same.

For a moment, all plans within plans aside, there was no one else in this room.

What did they need other people for, anyway?

Envy's hand reached out for his, the other one left holding the bouquet.

"Uh-huh," Arden said. "And after you're done trolling her, you're just gonna delete those off your phone, right? Certainly not gonna keep them around for any other reasons?"
