Parents Weekend Meet & Greet, Friday
It was nice for an October Friday, wasn't it? The leaves were falling artfully, and there was a slight chill, but it wasn't so cold that it would leave anyone shivering. And if, for some reason, they were, well-- the hot apple cider stand near the edge of the Park would probably help.
There was a merry banner in Fandom's colors floating above the picnic tables, reading--
PARENTS WEEKEND 2024! WELCOME!
-- and a squirrel band was playing interpretations of modern pop songs on very small squirrel instruments under one of the trees.
Welcome, parents and other friends and family.
[[ ocd up! you're all good to go with your apps ]]

Re: Mingle [PW 2024]
Looks like she's giving you cookies, Bellamy said helpfully. You take them and you say, 'Thank you.' Maybe smile.
Let's not be too hasty, Alastair muttered.
Why?
I don't know, maybe because you rescued her from a weird mob? Bellamy suggested.
That was mostly Raiden and Gray.
And she sees them all the time to give them cookies, Alastair reasoned. You've been staring at her for several seconds, by the way.
Daman bit back a swear at that and very carefully reached out to take the container from Arden, careful not to let his skin touch hers lest he get a headful of whatever she envied. "...thank you," he said, like he wasn't sure if he was saying it right.
Re: Mingle [PW 2024]
"You're welcome," Arden said, a little flushed. Look, several seconds of Daman's steady eye contact was...shut up, Bellamy.
"I just, um, wanted to come over and say hi," she said. "I know you've got Gray and Raiden to see and all your own stuff going on, but I wanted to at least take a second to..." Say hi. Right. She'd said that. "...It would have felt wrong to just...not..." She waved an arm like maybe that would help her explain. "Like you know you've got people that you'll say hi to if you bump into them at a party, but wouldn't look for them? It would feel weird if I only said hi cause our paths crossed, instead of taking the, uh? Time to look?"
Okay, cool, probably looked clingy or like a stalker or something. "You were all very kind to me," she said. "And instead of getting mad or just letting me twist in the wind, you...helped me. Even though you didn't know me and didn't owe me anything. And maybe you had a reason to help in the club, if, like, consequences would have hit Gray, too, but...you didn't have to be kind afterwards. But you were." She smiled a little, and was horrified to realize her eyes had welled up at some point in all that. Oh goddess was there no end to the indignities today? "So, um, you know. Wanted to make sure that I sought you out. Even if it's just for a hi. And to give cookies. Oh, and to let Castor know the car came and that I said thanks a million times again. Um. If you don't mind passing that on, I mean."
Yeeeeeah, okay well, she'd probably awkwarded up this conversation enough.
"But yeah! Uh, I can leave y'all to whatever you got going on now. Sorry. Thanks."
Re: Mingle [PW 2024]
"Castor," he repeated. "Yes. I'll...let Castor know that the car arrived all right." A beat. "Did any of these morons think to tell you about the taxes?"
Alastair groaned with the realization that he fell among the category of morons who had forgotten to tell Arden about the taxes. (Listen, Alastair had a lot going on in his life right now. And he didn't even know about half of it. We're cutting him a break.)
Re: Mingle [PW 2024]
Okay, so maybe if she started using the Ratmobile for crime, because she was pretty sure that was the only way she was going to be able to pay them.
"I don't know how much it cost in the beginning, so I don't know how to calculate how much they're gonna be..."
Re: Mingle [PW 2024]
"They're already taken care of," Daman told her. Because some of them had enough money sense to realize that a random college student might not have the funds lying around to pay taxes and insurance on a luxury sports car. Shockingly, Castor was among this number, but he lacked on the follow through. "The insurance, too."
"Cas said it wasn't much of a gift if you had to pay for it," Bellamy confirmed as he attempted to pry the lid off the Tupperware container without taking it out of Daman's hands, and got it snatched away with a positively venomous glare (that did not ruffle him at all) for his efforts.
Re: Mingle [PW 2024]
Trying to figure out taxes on a luxury car while also trying to figure out how to pay for her room at Midnight had been a small ulcer in the making.
"Though, if it wouldn't be too much trouble, could Castor still send me that paperwork soon?" she asked. "So I can start saving up for next year?"
Re: Mingle [PW 2024]
"I'll forward your request," Alastair promised. And he really would!
Re: Mingle [PW 2024]
Impossible.
"Thank you," she said, giving him a grateful smile. "I should probably get going though. End on a high note before I embarrass myself again."
