Parents Weekend Meet & Greet, Friday

It was nice for an October Friday, wasn't it? The leaves were falling artfully, and there was a slight chill, but it wasn't so cold that it would leave anyone shivering. And if, for some reason, they were, well-- the hot apple cider stand near the edge of the Park would probably help.

There was a merry banner in Fandom's colors floating above the picnic tables, reading--

PARENTS WEEKEND 2024! WELCOME!

-- and a squirrel band was playing interpretations of modern pop songs on very small squirrel instruments under one of the trees.

Welcome, parents and other friends and family.

If anyone had been near the playground a moment ago they might have noticed the sandbox suddenly glow and a man suddenly appear out of nowhere.

It didn’t take him long to spot the party, what with all the people milling about, but the scowl on his face deepened when he saw the name tag sitting on the registration table.

“Balls,” he muttered.

With a resigned sigh, he slapped the "Hello, My Name is Bobby Singer" tag onto his shirt.

“Guess somebody knew I was coming,” he grumbled, shaking his head. “'Cause I sure as hell didn’t.”

Approaching the registration table in a clatter of armor from the lovely blacksmith back in Daventry playing quite hard to get in refusing him business to grease and refit all these creaky joints (saucy minx! She'll come around eventually, no doubt just waiting for the right time to truly pounce!), ~Whisper~ chuckled to himself as he looked over the nametags to find his own.

"Ah-ha!" he declared, seizing it up and holding it up to inspect and admire it. "There you are, you dashing fellow! Have no fear, everyone!"

He peeled off the backing, slapped it onto his chest, and struck a dramatic pose.

"~Whisper~ is here!"

His attention then shifted, a moment later, to another familiar name, and he picked up that nametag as well, to hand it over to his friend.

"Ah, yes, and you're here, as well, Aaron," he said, despite the fact that the nametag he was holding out clearly said 'Acorn'.

But Acorn wasn't there, much to Whisper's surprise and his head swiveled back and forth a little bit to try and spot him, which really shouldn't be that hard, the man was rather hard to miss!

Hellboy was pretty sure that a name tag was rather useless for him but he picked his up that just said Hellboy and put it on.

Luma felt her spine stiffening slightly, like hackles being raised, as she cautiously lead Rhys, shambling and stiff, along with her to the park after getting set up in the hotel. The trip had been a lot for her mother, so they decided she should get some rest and stay there, and once she saw all the people at the Meet and Greet, she was glad for it. Her mother wouldn't do well with all these people at all, and the logistics of getting here there anyway, with all those stairs, was a problem that Luma didn't want to deal with until she could get Eleanor's help.

But she'd brushed her hair, she'd put on one of her nicest dresses, even put one some makeup, and she linked her arm in with her tall and handsome cousin's as they made their way to the registration table. "Look, Rhys," she said, smiling a little awkwardly as she pointed out his nametag. "That's you, see? Rhys."

"Rhys," he agreed, looking at Luma and smiling a little as she plastered the tag across his chest, on the red sweater that had been her father's, and before that, their grandfather's. "That's me."

"Mmmhmm," she agreed, and, putting on her own, she pointed to that, too. "And see? Mine says Luma. This one's for Aunt Aurora, so we'll just take that for her for later. And then we'll go find Eleanor, okay?"

"Ellie," the smile grew, though it remained somewhat oddly vacant, but wolfish nonetheless, "We'll get to see Ellie."

"That's right," she agreed again, her smile soft and caring and pitying and hurt, lifting a hand to his cheek for a moment before brushing down his unkempt hair. "We'll get to see Ellie. Come on."

She slid her hand down to his and turned to get a good feel for the place before they went to worry about tracking her sister down.

A trio of people dressed as if they'd stepped out of a Jane Austen novel I think I'm funny approached the registration: two young women, one several months pregnant, and a handsome man of about thirty.

After a few minutes, Kitty and Wickham were hatching a plan with their eyebrows to drag Georgiana away before she made the poor attendant cry by quizzing them about how the adhesive worked, but they did eventually get her to put on her name tag so they could move along.

Mara -- or "Audrey" as her name tag called her -- looked around the gathering with a repressed sneer.

Ohhhh, she could not wait to be done with this whole world. Sure, the fact that she wouldn't be leaving it burning down in her wake was a disappointment, but really, these barely sentient sacks of slime were hardly worth the effort.

". . . Ooo, hot cider!"

Iris Amicitia, Daemon Slayer of the Long Night, President of New Insomnia, leader of the entire free world of Eos, found herself at the registration table, spotted her nametag, and couldn't help but giggling, picking it up and bouncing as she held it up proudly to her companion.

"Look, Aranea!" she beamed. "It even says President!"

To be fair, her excitement was much more over the fact that it had actually worked. She didn't think it really would, after all these years of trying, that they'd actually make it through, but here they were, and as she stood there, with a nametag like she had a very long time ago, when she was so much younger and less experience and in awe of everything, marveling that she was actually back.

She didn't even wait for Aranea to respond, she just slapped her nametag on, reached for Aranea's to do the same with her, and then started bouncing off into the park.

"Come on! Let's go find my brother!"

After a...discussion, let's call it a discussion, that had nearly turned into a scuffle, Alastair and Bellamy had finally managed to convince Daman that yes, people did need to know his name, and no, the nametag wasn't going to damage his clothes, and that if Alastair was putting one on his silk shirt Daman could suck it up.

This discussion may have involved Bellamy briefly distracting him while Alastair slapped the thing into place and declared, "There, it's done."

Chiana had done this a few times now and happily slapped the nametag on her chest before spinning around to look for Stark or Summer or anyone else, really, who looked like they would be interesting.

Dean was never one to pass up a free meal. Or really any meal. So he was sitting at one of the tables, his plate stacked high with food and a separate plate with three slices of pie on it.

Say what you will about Dean, he knows how to enjoy food.

Someone skipped right on past the registration because the glue on the back of those name tags were just hell on his delicate skin.

"You know, I said the multiverse was a miss and I stand by that," Wade stated to just the world at large. "But damn do I have a weakness for a good apple cider. Fandom, you did it again! I'm not even mad we're not on LiveJournal anymore!"

Even though he knew it was pretty pointless, Prompto really couldn't help, every once in a while, taking a moment to look around and hoping to see a few familiar faces from what felt like a long-distant past, but he knew he was just torturing himself with thoughts like that. Still, HB and Broom were going to be here, so naturally, coming over to the meet and greet to....well, greet them made sense. But of course Noctra wanted to check out the food and snag a few treats for herself, which honestly was a good idea so she didn't get too cranky before they arrived. Prompto led her to the table, picked her up, and let her peruse a little before picking out a few things on a plate and going to go find a spot to sit and munch for now.

Hellboy was definitely helping himself to several plates of food, he’d eventually go and find everyone but for now he was enjoying the spread of food he had gotten for himself.

Well, it wasn't wine, but Wickham was giving the treats on offer a curious exploration nonetheless, occasionally selecting one to nibble on. He really wasn't sure about that PSL thing, but a nice cider would--hang on, where was the alcohol in this?

Absolutely not.

So she was going to sit on one of the picnic tables and survey the crowd, happily munching on her plate of food. People-watching at these things was always top-tier.

Oh, now, what an absolutely fascinating place this was! The Great Kenneth Haight (Next Rightful Ruler of Limgrave) was practically stunned with just how lively (and glittery!) it all was, to the point where he'd almost, briefly, slightly, forgotten what had lead him here in the first place!

"Ah, yes!" he declared to himself. "The demi-human!"

With his marveling now out of the way, he considered the park and the fact that it seemed to be his best bet in finding someone who might help him with his task, and, with a confident and dramatic stride toward the center of it, he cleared his throat and called out, "Hello! Hello, there! Greetings! Is there anyone here who might be able to help? Someone who might be interested in assisting the Great Kenneth Haight? Servant to the True Order, and Celebrated Repudiator of the False! O Erdtree! Grant me succour!"

There, now. That should do it. With those accolades, no doubt, these people, whoever they were (poor things, without even the glow of the Erdtree to comfort them!), would come rushing to provide him aid!

Charlie's Aunties had gotten food - Gwen more than the others and were roaming about.

Auntie Jane was arguing with Auntie Muriel over who got which room at the Inn. Protip? Auntie Jane was going to win. Always.

Auntie Gwen and Auntie Carmen were checking out any available men or women at the picnic. What? It was going to be a long weekend and Charlie only required so much watching.

Arden was just hanging around drinking a mug of hot cider and hoping that she didn't look too awkward as she, y'know, waited to talk to other people's families.

Maybe if she stood here very still, no one would notice her? Like, everybody knew that families tracked by movement, like velociraptors or something...

Oh goddess, even her internal monologue was cringe.

And while Whisper was taking care of the registration and the nametags, Acorn was...distracted.

Graham had told him all about the squirrels on this island, and he was more excited about getting to meet them than anyone. So you'd better believe he was off to the side somewhere with a few of them, chatting it up and telling them about Princess Madeline of Avalon (she couldn't make it today, due to someone forgetting to properly register her, ahem), and getting to finally meet these illustrious radio squirrels he'd been hearing so much about!

It really was a shame Princess Madeline couldn't be here, she would have adored them even more than he did so far!
