Look, Vi didn't have any opinions on the weekend whatsoever. So she was dealing with those non-opinions in a perfectly healthy and normal manner.

Namely shadowboxing in the clearest part of the store until she could barely hold her hands up.

Perfectly normal and healthy.

Hey, it was a marked improvement from punching trees until she ripped her hands up, so Steph -- who did have opinions on the weekend, at least as it pertained to Vi but certainly not at all on her own behalf -- was fine leaving her to it. For now, at least, and whenever Vi got tired enough to take a break she'd be in the office with ice cold cucumber lemonade and sandwiches.

Punching trees had been pretty tempting for a moment, but there were too many randoms in the preserve these days, and it worried Steph, so shadow boxing it was (see, healthy!). And least until she came into the office to drape her sweaty self over Steph from behind.

"Ew, gross," Steph said teasingly, sliding a very large cup of lemonade within arm's length before reaching up to curl a hand around one of Vi's biceps and keep her close. She turned her head to kiss said bicep. "Productive workout?"

Vi kissed the top of Steph's head, reaching for the lemonade with her free hand.

She drained the cup before replying. "No damage," she said, flashing Steph the backs of her un-torn-up knuckles.

Steph let go of Vi's bicep, but only so she could grab that hand and bring it to her mouth to kiss those intact knuckles.

"Good, since I prefer you undamaged." She'd done her best over the weekend to keep them both from dwelling on their lack of visitors and the various underlying reasons, but that only went so far. "I'd ask if you want a sparring partner, but that would be a tragically lopsided match."

And Vi had appreciated that distraction.

"And I like to keep my girl happy," Vi said, pressing another kiss to the top of her head. "Besides when it comes to you I much prefer wrestling."

Steph, still pressing Vi's hand to her lips, snickered.

"Ah. That's what we're calling it now, huh?"

"I mean, there's grappling and holding and pinning," Vi pointed out, the very picture of innocence. "Maybe a bit too much biting."

"Oh, too much, huh?" Steph could turn that innocent tone right back on her, thank you very much. "I'll take your feedback into account for the future, in that case."

"Too much to count as wrestling," Vi clarified without missing a beat. "If anything there's not enough."

"You have absolutely no shame," Steph informed her in a way that very much implied that was a feature, not a bug. "Still, duly noted."

She curled her fingers around Vi's hand for a little squeeze before tucking it under her chin.

"Feeling any better?"

"None at all," Vi agreed. At least when it came to sex.

Vi squeezed back. "Some," she said softly. Which probably had as much to do with the contact as the punching. "This month sucks."

Steph's voice cracked slightly as she replied, "Yeah. Always fucking does." A little bit less every year, but to some degree it probably always would. "But you've still got me."

Vi's draping turned into more of a proper hug. "And you've got me. Always." Even when she inevitably turned into a neon pink kitten.

Which was, go figure, part of the reason October was marginally less shitty now.

"And I appreciate it so, so fucking much." Steph leaned back into her. "I literally do not know what I would've done without you the last couple of years."

Was it more than that? She wasn't trying too hard to count.

Time was a lie, anyway.

"I know I'd be a whole lot unhappier without you in my life," Vi told her, soft and earnest. "Being around you makes pretty much everything better."

"Yeah. Same. On both counts." Steph tucked her head in against Vi's shoulder. "Besides, trying to make your life a little better is one of my favorite pastimes."

Vi pressed her face in against Steph's hair. "You're pretty good at that."

[drumsticksandd20s]

"Yeah, well... practice makes perfect. Or something trending in that general direction, anyway," Steph said, bringing Vi's hand to her mouth for another kiss. "But I also think you've done a pretty damn good job of it for yourself."

While it was in the vicinity anyway, Vi brushed her thumb along Steph's jaw. "It's kinda dumb, but it helps that I feel like I've got permission to be around you."

"Not dumb at all." Steph leaned into her hand, lips lingering against her knuckles. "And it's... kind of an honor, actually, that you feel like that around me."

"It's just easy to be around you," Vi said, fully aware that Steph got what she meant by that. "Always has been."

"As easy as breathing." Steph chuckled wryly and nudged one of the sandwiches within Vi's reach. "I always thought it was cheesy as fuck when people said that, and I am so annoyed that it's actually fucking accurate."

Vi laughed and shifted enough that she could still be in contact with Steph without risking dropping crumbs on her head. "Given how much shit we give each other, that's probably appropriate."

"Damn it, you're not wrong. God, we're cheesy. Worst possible fate ever," Steph said with a melodramatic sigh.

Not that she would have minded the crumbs (much), but she did appreciate Vi's consideration.
