Caritas; Wednesday [10/09].

Whatever had been going on with the mechanical bull last night had thankfully calmed down a little bit. It was still running without even being connected to a power source, but, like any creature that had been going full tilt nonstop for a while, it was starting to slow down. Like it was getting tired. Reducing the sound it was making to the occasional slow creak or whining of overworked gears or whatever that made it....not great, but tolerable.

Which was a good thing, because, yeah, no, if it had been making the sounds it was making yesterday? Summer would have been skipping out of work two weeks in a row, because she did not need that in her life right now, kay, thanks, bye.

So occasionally, there'd be a cringe-worthy squeal or creaking from the backroom or something a little more as the bull seemed to get a sudden surge of energy that ramped it up again before it settled back down, but it was so far managable.

So far.

“Hey there, Summer,” Dean said limping up to the bar. “Let’s see. I’ll take the caramel apple and the maple almond with a whiskey chaser.”

"What, no pickles?"

Somehow, Summer was not surprised if that one turned out to be the less popular of the bunch today. But she dutifully set out a caramel apple and the maple and went to pour a whiskey that was probably way nice than Dean would have ever chosen for himself.

"So, is that limp due to you getting caught up in something or just old age?"

If you were coming into this bar with that limp and didn't expect an old age joke, then you clearly did not know who you were getting your booze from.

“No pickles,” Dean said with a nod. “And the limp is from a hunting trip. Twisted it while trying not to get gored. How’ve you been, Summer? It’s been a while.”

Rey walked in just in time for one of those slow creaks, and asked, "What was that?"

And Summer sighed, tossing her bartowel over her shoulder because that just seemed like the right bartender thing to do in this situation.

"The mechanical bull in the back room," she explained. "Apparently, it's going through a thing."

Summer wrinkled her nose as the creaking seemed to push itself into a chugging sound not unlike that of an unbalanced load of laundry in the washer, but then it settled back down to the slow creaking.

"It's also spooky season. Maybe it's possessed. I think we just need to get a repairperson in, though, myself. But who knows?"

Don was trying to get out more, and tomorrow was, of course, Thor's day, so tonight found him walking in the door and pausing to give the specials board a confused look.

"You know," he said after a moment, "I'm not sure I've ever had a Jello shot." Since Odin had skipped right over undergrad when he made him and all.

"Oh, no!" said Summer, although she was chuckling a little too much for it to be convincingly shocked. In fact, that chuckle had a little bit too much glee and excitement in it, and the little pleased clapping of her hands that went along with it probably didn't help much, either. "That's tragic! Clearly, we need to fix that up right away!"

Which was why he was getting a maple shot set in front of him post haste with an encouraging nod toward it. "Better start with that one," she said, "unless you hate maple. But the apple one is in an apple and therefore won't give you the same wriggly jello shot feeling, and the other one is...."

She looked toward the specials board pointedly.

"Well, it's dill pickle, so unless you're into that kind of thing..."

"Hello Summer!" Yelena said cheerfully as she took her seat at the bar and evaluated the specials. "I will take three dill pickle jello shots please with extra dill."

"I actually didn't bring any extra dill," said Summer, sounding a little disappointed with herself for that, but lining the shots up per request. "Would an extra shot of pickled juice on the side count?"

It wasn't that Stark didn't expect to see Summer here tonight. He was just happy about it. Maybe the usual kiss hello was a little more enthusiastic than usual as a result.

"Hi."

"I was thinking of baking something with apples and maple after reading about Raiden's class yesterday. Those two shots sound good. And I'll try the pickle."

Pickles were tasty. A shot probably wouldn't hurt him.

Summer was pretty fucking glad to be behind the bar again this week, too. Trust.

"Hi," she answered back, grinning as she settled back down from the greeting kiss and started to get Stark his shots. And start on his cocktail that he didn't technically order but was clearly going to get anyway.

"Tis the season, after all! But why only thinking about baking it and not, you know, actually baking it?"

Because of he'd done that, she could eat it, Stark!

YAY, time to actually post today!
