The Magpie Emporium, Monday [09/12]
Vi was having a very sparkly day.
In addition to the tinsel, which Saffron was a great fan of and Little Bot less so (it got caught in his axles), there was a delivery of various glitter filled and liquid core dice. Which she was currently arranging by colour and size.

She put down the bag of grilled cheese and tomato soup and came over to see what kinds of sparkly new math rocks they had on display today, only to get distracted by what she thought was tinsel stuck in Vi's hair, and...
"I think you might need a haircut."

Look, she was happy to help Vi maintain the side shave, but that was the extent of her hair cutting abilities.

She leaned back into Steph's touch. "How long is long?"
Long enough it was a surprise you/I> hadn't noticed, Vi.
no subject
Like she'd ever think anything wasn't a good look on Vi.

Vi shivered pleasantly and leaned back against Steph's hand, because why wouldn't she?
"Yeah, that is kinda long," she said. "Too easy to grab. In the unfun way."
no subject
"But also in the fun way," she said lightly, rubbing circles against Vi's back. "Time to book you an appointment, then? It would just end in tears if I did it."
no subject
"I always know I'm gonna have fun when your hands are in my hair," Vi said, kissing her shoulder with a bittersweet smile. "Besides, it probably wouldn't be the worst I'd ever had."
Much as Vi'd believed that there was nothing Mom wasn't the best at at the time (with Dad or Vander alternating seconds), hindsight made it clear that wasn't really true for hair-cutting.
no subject
"I can try if you want me to," Steph offered, though she didn't look incredibly enthused about the idea. "Or we could both go? I could use a trim, these split ends are getting rough."
She studied Vi's face for a moment. "Besides, I get my hands in your hair, I'm not sure I should be handling scissors."
no subject
She paused significantly, then innocent and pure as the driven snow "Never thought I hear you disparage your scissoring skills though."
no subject
"Oh, good one. Walked right into that."
no subject
"It was kinda obvious."
no subject
No, Steph, they'd probably hate you both.
She leaned in to kiss Vi's cheek.
"Glad you approve of my skills, though."
no subject
She smiled at her. "I mean, given how I benefit from them."
no subject
"We will need a shower afterward to get rid of all the little hair bits," Steph pointed out, squeezing her hand. "And you know how we like to be efficient about that."
Sure. Those extra long joint showers were very efficient.
"You know how it is," she added with a grin. "I like to make my girl happy."
no subject
"You're very good at that," Vi assured her.

Steph leaned in and hugged her for a moment, then started to try and tug her toward where their lunch was laid out.
"Was that..." She glanced up at Vi's hair. "Worrying about people grabbing your hair, was that a big thing?"
no subject
Vi easily let Steph pull her, not least because lunch smelled pretty great.
"I mean I was usually the one hair-pulling," she replied softly, without a single trace of shame, it was far from the dirtiest move she was comfortable with using. "But, yeah, just people being able to get a hold on me in general."
no subject
Steph slid a sandwich and cup of soup over to Vi, then reached up to touch the short-cropped hair on the side of her head. "Was that part of why you went with this haircut?"
As if she'd object to Vi fighting dirty.
no subject
"No, it would've been smarter to just cut it all off." Vi leaned into the touch as she dipped a corner of the sandwich in the soup. "At first, Vander wasn't great at haircuts either, and then Powder tried to help fix it. It was a mess, but I kinda liked it. Eventually I figured out what worked and how to do it on purpose."
no subject
Steph ran her fingers idly over Vi's hair, enjoying the texture and also just the contact with her, as always.
"And now you have me to help you with it," she said, unwrapping her own sandwich with her one free hand. "I've always liked this haircut on you, from the first time we met. I thought pretty much right away that you were going to be cool as hell. Did not expect to fall head over heels in love, though."
no subject
Vi's eyes drifted halfway closed and she made a noise that Saffron would be insulted to hear called a purr. "I thought you were cute," she said, smiling as she took a bite of her sandwich. "Then you gave me shit about stealing your clothes, and you were kind."
It hadn't taken much more than that.
no subject
"And now here we are," Steph said, looking at her with a fond smile. "Still giving each other shit, but lovingly."
And still totally not living together. Shut up.
no subject
Vi swallowed and smiled back. "Still stealing your clothes too."
It didn't mean anything that Vi had a key. She also had a key to the store and she didn't live here either.
no subject
Saffron thought it was a travesty that Vi didn't live here. She also thought Food Human was being insufferable again.
