Fandom Island Museum, Thursday Daytime

When Steven bumped into dreidels on the way to work he was able to guess what the day's event had turned out to be. He quickly texted Llewellyn to warn him, then just as quickly ran to work on the odd chance the dreidels might follow him instead of hanging about outside their home.

Once Steven was behind the Welcome Desk he did indulge in a few games so the dreidels would know it was nothing personal. Steven got a few pieces of chocolate gelt for his attempts, so at least he had something to nibble on while he was working. Worse things could happen to him by far, really.

Otherwise he was working and preparing things for next week's holiday break. Certainly there for any visitors who needed him.

And not too long after Steven settled in behind the Welcome Desk, there was a delivery and accompanying note:

Steven smiled when he saw them. He took a picture and texted Llewellyn.

Nell stopped by with some holiday treats, and really, she was probably here pretty much every Thursday whether she seemed to be or not because she really liked stopping by to see Steven even if her player was a loser and never managed to post here. Ahem.

In any case, she greeted Steven with a smile and a parcel of teas and honey and some cookies she'd made.

"Nell, hello!" Steven said, giving her a wave. "How are you today?"

"I'm very well," she said. "And you? Getting ready for Hannukah next week?"

[hasaknightjob]

"Yes," Steven said. He indicated the gelt he'd earned earlier. "As is the island it seems. Are you doing anything next week yourself?"

[mylandmyrules]

"I'm not sure," Nell said. "I might be cooking a special meal for Christmas or we might be going to Ignis and Liliana's house. Other than that I don't have plans for anything out of the ordinary."

"I'm curious how many will be on the island at all," Steven said. "It already feels more quiet than usual, doesn't it? People being busy and the like."

[mylandmyrules]

"It does," Nell said. "Though I'm usually pretty much a homebody this type of year anyway."

She smiled at him. "It's the fallow time for the plants and me as well."

Steven grinned. "Do you bury yourself under blankets instead of the ground?"

[mylandmyrules]

Nell laughed. "Pretty much!"

"And you've Gladio to hibernate with," Steven said with a smile. "Does he like the quiet of winter as well?"

[mylandmyrules]

"I think he likes pretty much everything," Nell said. "He's happy to curl up with a good book at the end of the day. As long as he gets his good workouts in he's happy."

"That's good," Steven said. "I know there's some on the island who don't care for the cold or the like. That's part of why I like all the holidays. Different religions and cultures all in agreement to hold off the dark and cold together."

[mylandmyrules]

"Everything has its season," Nell said. "I love them all. Especially here where I don't have to worry about electricity or heat or everything freezing over."

[hasaknightjob]

"If you have a fire going it's because you'd like to be cozy and not because you need it," Steven agreed. "I'm with you. I enjoy all the seasons. Been having a great deal of fun ice skating this time around. Difficult doing that in summer."

[mylandmyrules]

"Ive never done that," Nell said. "Is it hard? It doesn't seem like it would be easy to do."

[hasaknightjob]

"Takes getting used to," Steven said. "I was right wobbly at the start. But there's spaces on the ice you can go - er, if you're on a rink that is - where it's all right if you're a beginner? No worry that you're holding others back as you get your ice legs under you."

[mylandmyrules]

"Interesting," Nell said thoughtfully. "Maybe I'll see if Gladio wants to try it sometime."

[hasaknightjob]

"You can rent the skates," Steven said. "So there's no commitment to give it a go. That's how I learned. Now I have my own."

Steven looked proud of that fact.

[mylandmyrules]

"You must really like it," Nell said, duly impressed. "Shows it's not just something you might do once a year or so."

[hasaknightjob]

"Makes for a nice date," Steven explained. "Get to go out and hold hands while you do it."

[mylandmyrules]

Nell laughed. "Not sure that will make up for the amount of time I'll spend falling on my bottom!"

"I did as well," Steven assured her. "Nice thing is, you can sit and have hot cocoa or the like when you need to rest and warm up. Er, perhaps not sit if you feel on your arse."

She laughed again. "Hot chocolate is always appealing."
