The Magpie Emporium, Monday [30/12]

It was quiet enough that Vi probably didn't really need to be in the store today, especially when they'd just gotten back from Haven Springs, which had been all kinds of nice, even if Vi continued to be slightly dubious about just how how much Ryan enjoyed nature, and maybe a little disconcerted by the fact Steph's friends were kind of becoming her friends too.

But by the same token, it was quiet enough that Vi was having a pretty chill day with the most demand on her time coming from Saffron, who had been cruelly abandoned once again.

She was safe from ever having to admit to anyone that she had incentive to want Food Human around. Besides the food, that was.

"I mean, I would hope you don't, but I don't even want to think about that," Steph said, leaning her head against Vi's shoulder. "Like, ever."

There were marching bands more subtle than these two.

Imagine if she were ever reduced to acknowledging that her life was somewhat marginally better for having someone of Food Human's mediocre caliber in it.

Steph gave her the particularly wistful and relieved smile that had become her standard reaction whenever they had one of these weird little exchanges that managed to talk their way around the exact shape of a promise. "Good, 'cause I'm yours, period. Anyway, I think she's just glad you make me as happy now as I was miserable then."

Also, those bands might be quieter.

Because there was an exact formula. Mind, they'd never actually puzzled out precisely what it was because doing so might incur the wrath of the thing from on high, but there was one and they were sure of it.

"Yeah? Same. Love you, babe." Steph reached a hand up to cup Vi's cheek and bring her in for a kiss, sweet and lingering.

The thing about marching bands was that they didn't tend to go on at all hours of the night.
