The Perk, Thursday Evening

Was meeting up with a group for an evening coffee the best idea in the world this week? Absolutely not, but since when had it been said that Lydia Bennet had only good ideas? She had announced this on the radio, after all, and she couldn't go back on that! She was sure it would be fine! A lovely evening would be had by all.

No, not like that. A very lovely evening drinking coffee, or tea for those of them with the sense to recognize that coffee tasted awful.

She was already uncertain what to do about the fact that the barista had given her her phone number, but welcome to Supper Club, everyone!

This week was an exercise in shielding, and in giving Rey a headache. She was really trying to tamp down on the crankiness though. Hanging out with friends was probably needed anyway now, even if they were hot friends.

Even if she might not move from her spot on the sofa, where it was safe.

Not that Lydia was thinking about any of that, really, she swore. Ahem.

"Miss Skywalker! Welcome! Do you prefer tea or coffee?" There was a right answer here, but Lydia would strive not to hold it against her if she didn't give it.

Yeeeeah, she might end up realizing she probably should have gone with a table.

"A wonderfully safe topic," Rey smiled. "Coffee, mostly. Yourself?"

But tables could also be used for nope, sorry, not helpful.

"I vastly prefer tea," Lydia confessed. "Some do drink coffee at home, but I've never had the taste for the stuff. It's so bitter!" See? Safe conversational grounds.

"There aren't bitter teas?" Rey asked. "I haven't tried many. I should expand my horizons a bit."

"Tea is somewhat bitter on its own, I suppose, but nowhere near so much as coffee," Lydia mused. "And I prefer it sweetened, at any rate. But there's such a great variety of teas, especially nowadays. They get ever so creative with the blends." This was not a metaphor for anything.
