The Perk- Tuesday morning

Rey didn't know when exactly she'd started thinking ahead and focusing more on things like teaching- she certainly didn't think she'd learned everything herself yet- but it seemed to be happening. And so a call was made to a person that she really should have talked to long before this.

She skipped training this morning, settling in at the Perk for a bit while she waited with a drink. It was no cheery chai but it was good anyway.

"Other than the attempted murder," Luke said with a small smile. "Sounds a little like Mara and I."

"What was that like?" she asked. "I went to school with her."

[tatooine_doofus]

"She was...intense," Luke said with a smile.

[thatwaslucky]

"Really?"

She also didn't know Mara was faking it all when she was here.

[tatooine_doofus]

Luke nodded. "She was working for the Emperor from the time she was young, either with heavy levels of compulsion or brain washing, I've never asked her to explain it too much. But when he died, his final order to her was too kill me."

"That does sound similar," she said slowly. "It looks like she didn't do it."

[tatooine_doofus]

"She killed my clone instead," Luke said like that was a normal thing.

And Rey, who listened to it like a normal thing, said, "That makes very real sense as a loophole."

[tatooine_doofus]

"It does, doesn't it?" Luke agreed.

[thatwaslucky]

"How are you two now?"

She knew how it ended up.

[tatooine_doofus]

Luke smiled. "We're friends."

[thatwaslucky]

"I'm really glad to know that worked out," she said.

[tatooine_doofus]

"She also doesn't want to be trained," Luke said with a wry smile, "and is definitely not interested in teaching."

"Her time with Palpatine was enough for her?" Rey guessed.

[tatooine_doofus]

"More than enough," Luke said.

[thatwaslucky]

"I can't blame her," she admitted. "Maybe she'll come around. You and Palpatine could not be more different."

[tatooine_doofus]

"I really do appreciate hearing that," Luke said sincerely. "He's left a large shadow in your version, too?"

[thatwaslucky]

"Oh, you have no idea," she said.

[tatooine_doofus]

"I'm sorry to hear that," Luke said.

[thatwaslucky]

"He's gone now, and that's the important thing."

At least he'd better be.

"That's very true," Luke said, "and good riddance."

[thatwaslucky]

She nodded. "We have more important things to be doing."

[tatooine_doofus]

"The arduous process of rebuilding," Luke said, "no thanks to him."

[thatwaslucky]

"Are you involved in any of the non-Jedi parts of that?" Rey asked.

[tatooine_doofus]

"Some, but Leia thinks re-starting the Order is a priority, too, and only I can do it."
