It seemed the lawn gnome thefts had picked up once again.

Not thefts of lawn gnomes, mind. Thefts apparently perpetuated by the lawn gnomes.

Hence why Watts was currently having some of the Troopers go out to collect the alleged thieves and bring them to a holding cell.

"Yes!" Steven said, looking positively delighted about that.

"Very clever," Watts said with a besotted smile. Had Steven come up with the idea? No. Not the point.

"Isn't it though?" Steven said. Now that Llewellyn had seen the pie, Steven began to portion it out, making sure Llewellyn got a larger piece.

Something that did not go unnoticed by Watts, meaning that besotted look wasn't going away anytime soon. Not even when he took his first bite.

Steven had a forkful of his own ready, but he watched Llewellyn carefully to see how he liked it.

Watts started to speak before he'd actually finished chewing. Paused. Finished chewing.

"Delicious!" he declared enthusiastically.

"Excellent!" Steven said, relieved Llewellyn liked it. "Bit of fun, you know? Traditional dish but we can eat it."

"It really is quite clever," Watts agreed, gesturing with his fork. "Wordplay and all."

"Clever and tasty," Steven said, finally having his own forkful. "Excellent combination."

"Yes," Watts agreed. "Though if ever I'm in a situation where I had to choose one option over the other, I would pick something tasty," he admitted, to what was likely Steven's great surprise.

Steven grinned. "That's all right. I can always come up with clever on my own if the recipe doesn't provide it."

"Because you," and here Watts was leaning over to press a kiss to Steven's cheek in emphasis. "Are a wonderfully clever man yourself."

"Not a scoundrel?" Steven asked with a grin.

"Now, whoever said those two were mutually exclusive terms?" Watts said archly.

"I could be a clever scoundrel?" Steven asked. "I like the sound of that."

"Seems like the best sort of scoundrel, you ask me," Watts said, bumping Steven's shoulder with his own.

"Long as it's the kind of scoundrel who makes you smile," Steven said.

"Regularly," Watts said, turning one of those smiles on him now.

"Lucky scoundrel, to see you being extra handsome," Steven said in response to that smile.

"A clever scoundrel and a flirt," Watts added.

"A clever scoundrel who can see how handsome you are," Steven countered.

"Lucky me, then, to have found him."

[hasaknightjob]

"Right across the corridor," Steven said. "Like it was meant to be."

"Offering to help me with my boxes," Watts said fondly.

"Good thing they weren't too heavy," Steven said. "You and I were able to manage it by ourselves."
