Over Easy, Saturday

Raiden was back at work today at Over Easy, but he was a smidgen distracted by trying to find out what constituted a balanced meal for a bird.

You know. Normal problems.

"I feel like we should provide options for when people turn into things, but there's so much variety. I don't know what to feed a plant!...You're right. Plant food."

Funny he should consider that, because what should be sauntering into his restaurant right then, but a sleek and elegant black cat wearing an oddly-shaped gold collar (like, say, a gold headdress that had turned into a collar, perhaps) with a ring attached to the front of it. The cat's tail was raised up in curiosity and intrigue.

"Mrrrrow!"

Raiden didn't pay enough attention to what people were wearing to recognize the collar, so he guessed, "Hi! Are you that witch guy's familiar?" The familiar could talk, Raiden.

Could he read cat body language enough to recognize the baleful glare he was receiving for that question? Lilicat sat on her haunches and glared at him, then proceeded to wash her face.

But like. Disdainfully.

A familiar? How dare.

"I'm gonna take that as a no."

There was something about this cat that was very familiar (but not, apparently, a familiar), but Raiden couldn't quite place it. That didn't mean he wasn't going to feed it, however. "We have a couple of tables sized for our raccoon citizens that might be to your liking, and may I interest you in the crab and asparagus frittata? I'll have to check if asparagus poisons cats or something. We also have shrimp. With or without grits. I don't know if cats like grits."

Liliana cut her eyes at him, then got back up to her feet and padded over to one of the smaller tables and daintily took a seat. "Myyyyow," she informed him. "Mrrr, meow meow."

You got that, right, Raiden?

If only he was the other Chris Hemsworth-faced person on the island, the one with the Allspeak. "Is that a yes on the frittata?"

The cat nodded. Regally.

Though, honestly, that was pretty true for all cats, at least those that weren't orange toms.

"And maybe a shrimp on the side?" Raiden ventured, because what kitty wouldn't want a delicious shrimp?

"Prrrrp!" That was an excited kitty noise, with emphatic nodding.

She was definitely here for the seafood. Asparagus whatever, but seafood? Hell yeah.

Hm. "Real talk, should I bother with the frittata part or just bring you a pile of shrimp and crab? Blink twice for eggs."

Liliana chirped happily at the offer of just shrimp and crab. A moment of consideration, and then she was blinking. Egg would make her coat that much glossier and more lovely.

Yesgood, excellent, Raiden. This place was fantastic.

"One shrimp and crab frittata, cat sized, coming right up," Raiden agreed. "And..." He leaned way down, to as close to cat level as he could get, and dropped his voice, "I don't think you're actually supposed to have a saucer of cream, but what the food police don't know won't hurt them."

Just for that, Liliana was rising up at high as she could, trying to bonk her head against him in enthusiastic agreement.

You were great, Raiden. Anybody who argued otherwise could come take it up with her.

Should Raiden be concerned about how a cat was going to pay for brunch? That presupposed that either of his restaurants were being run for profit and not under a loss leader of a line item titled 'It Makes Raiden Happy' in Castor's overall family budget.

"You just meow if you need anything, okay? I'm going to find out if anybody on the kitchen staff speaks cat." They might! It had been a language elective at the high school many years ago, he'd heard.

She could run up a tab. Or pay it back with prey. The chipmunk population around their mansion has taken a hit over the last few days and Ignis would probably appreciate someone else being the beneficiary of her hunting prowess.

"Rrow," she agreed and returned to her seat at the table.

To wait impatiently for her seafood.
