Over Easy, Saturday

Things were in a bit of a state at Over Easy, what with having to make sure they had options on hand for, oh, any random animal that might walk in the door with one of their humanoid patrons today, plus the staff all having their own animal companions to deal with. Raiden didn't know whose rhinoceros that was waiting outside the back door, and he was a little afraid to ask.

"Look, if the health department shows up just tell them to come back next week, all right? Well if something else is happening then we'll just deal with that next week--Effie! Effie, drop it!" His daemon gave him huge sad puppy eyes around several rashers of raw bacon. "It's better cooked!"

Efthumia spit the bacon out. "Oh, well, if you'll cook it for me..."

"Might as well." It wasn't like they could serve it to anyone else now.

Was there food for platypuses? Stark and Virginia hoped so.

"Hello, Raiden," Stark called out as he walked in, platypus companion nestled in the crook of his arm.

Raiden had pulled out his phone to google 'what do platypus eat?' (not even trying to figure out the plural there) as soon as they'd walked through the door, and as soon as he saw 'shrimp' on the list he stopped worrying. They could handle this.

"Stark, hey! And Stark's friend," he greeted Virginia. Effie wagged her tail as she continued to look around for snacks. "This is Effie."

"Hello, Effie. This is Virginia." No tail wags because platypus tails weren't really built for that.

"We've come for brunch," Stark continued even though that was probably extremely obvious.

"I've never had brunch," Virginia said. "It's come highly recommended."

Raiden gasped, and Effie dropped whatever she had in her mouth right that second. "Never had brunch!" she exclaimed.

"Stark has had brunch, of course," Virginia said. "But I've never been able to have it for myself."

There had been no brunch restaurant on the island the last time this happened.

"Well, we gotta fix that," Raiden declared. "You came to the right place."

"Start with the best," Stark said, offering a grin. "I've never been disappointed by your offerings."

"He does seem very food of the food here," Virginia said fondly.

"So, I don't think any of our specials are, uh, platypus-friendly," Raiden said, "but we have shrimp for the shrimp and grits?" He didn't know if platypuses could eat grits.

"Shrimp would be lovely," Virginia said. "And Stark will have the pancakes."

"I will?"

"You will."

"You can have something else if you want," Raiden told him. You weren't the boss of us, random animal companions!

Some of you needed bosses, obviously!

"I do like pancakes," Stark said. "But I wanted some meatier this morning. Maybe sausages on the side? Or bacon?"

"Or both?" Effie suggested helpfully, like a helper.

[stykera]

"Oh, both would be good," Stark said, nodding. "Good idea."

So helpful, Effie!

"Both it is!" Raiden agreed as he wrote it down. "Anything else for you guys?" He was always of the opinion that more was more.

"Water," Virginia said. "Perhaps in a bowl?" She couldn't exactly hold a glass and a straw would just be silly.

"And I'd like...I don't know what goes well with peanut butter and jelly pancakes.
