J, GoB's, Tuesday Afternoon

Miho stopped by Jeff's to terrorize the clerk and pick up some cheesecake. Mmm, delicious cheesecake. She was in a good mood, so as she waited for the clerk to box up her cheesecake, she decided to share it with the girls at the Sin. She thought Becky in particular needed cheesecake for some reason.

Jack laughed quietly at that. "I'm glad they can feed them, otherwise it wouldn't be so much a jail as a morgue." He pulled another piece of danish off and twirled it between his fingers. "Classics become classics for a reason, I guess. You can count me in on the whole no parents thing."

"I dunno what I thought, that it might be like stasis or something. They can't give the prisoners mail, though. I checked." Z tore another chunk off her danish. "It kinda sucks, doesn't it? The no parents thing."

"Mmmm, yes and no on the parents thing. I never had them, and if they didn't want me the feeling's pretty much mutual." A half smile made a brief appearance. "Might have made life a lot easier though. Is there someone in that little bitty jail you want to send mail to?"

"My best friend." Z chuckled as she realized something. "Jack, actually. We got arrested together. It was his fault. He got this idea that we could steal clothes for the homeless aliens."

((And now, I'm going to be unconscious for a while. Finish this later?))

Jack looked pleased at the revelation. "It's a good name." Dropping the uneaten piece of danish on the plate, he looked at her closely. "They didn't give Jack the same deal they gave you?"

[Yup, tomorrow sometime works. Sleep well!]

Z looked kind of sad. "They did. But he turned them down. He was always sort of a moron like that. Going on about helping people, and then we're given a chance to really help people, and what does he do? He decides he'd rather rot in jail!"

"Maybe it's just that he wanted it to be on his terms? I can kind of relate to that." Jack reached for her hand, drawn by the sad look. "Having a future forced on you, even if it's what you want, makes a lot of people angry. Angry people make strange choices."

"Mostly, I think he's a moron," Z confided. "But he's my moron, y'know? So...do they have something called--" she had to wrack her brain to remember her Ranger history-- "oh, yeah, Time Force? Do they have that where you're from?"

"Yeah, I know. I have a feeling there's people here that say that about me." Pulling back a little, Jack said, "Time Force? No, I've never heard of the Time Force. What is it?"

"Well, they're like cops. Time cops. Supposedly. They sent Rangers back to keep some mutants from taking over the world or something back before I was born."

Jack's eyes brightened. "So, they travel through time, fixing things that go wrong? I might have heard of a similar group in my time. Different name though. Is that the sort of cop you're going to be? Travelling through time, stopping mutants from taking over the world?"

"No, SPD ~~totally does that~~ doesn't do that. They police aliens on Earth, stuff the regular police can't handle."

"And I think there's a similar organisation in my time. Must be a common thing: once you accept there's aliens, you've got to have people who can deal with them if they get out of hand."

"Exactly. And when the aliens get out of hand where I'm from, they smash up downtown in giant robots. So...yes."

"Giant robots?" Jack laughed. "I think they're a bit more subtle where I come from. I'm pretty sure I would have noticed giant robots."

"I hope you would have noticed giant robots. Maybe they've evolved past giant robots by your time."

"Giant robots are probably very last century. Probably only the least fashionable of the alien megalomaniacs use them, and they're probably too embarrassed to show them to anyone."

"They're not exactly fashionable-looking to start with, so I can totally buy that. Think if I spread the word back home giant robots are going to go out of fashion, they'd give up trying to stomp us?"

"That might do the trick. Or they might come back with spiffy new paint jobs. Besides, there's something to be said for bad guys that can't exactly hide."

"That's true. In the giant robots we can always find them, and the Power Rangers have Zords to fight the giant robots in." Z popped a bit of danish in her mouth before adding, "And they usually manage to contain the fights to the abandoned warehouse district."

"That's convenient. Might also explain why the warehouses are abandoned, if giant robots and - Power Rangers? - regularly come rampaging through it."

"Probably. The insurance rates must be killer, for one thing."

"But abandoned, so who's paying it? And who's dumb enough to keep rebuilding them once they get squashed flat? You'd think the city would just declare it an official giant robot preserve or something. Cordon it off on a permanent basis and sell tickets."

"Hey, yeah. They could build bleachers and sell popsicles shaped like robots and stuff. Make a killing."

"But then it would all turn nasty. The robots would be demanding a cut of the money, and they'd refuse to perform unless they got a bigger billling." Jack laughed. "Then you'd be out of a future career, 'cause there'd be no more giant robots to fight."
