Caritas [Sunday Evening]

Greg opened up Caritas, mulling over the conversation from earlier in the day with his school-appointed and very grumpy little brother.

He whistled as he started to reassemble the band, and then took his place behind the bar and waving cheerfully to Jarod on the other side of the bar.

"I'm good," Veronica replied with a grin. "How are you?"

"Fabulous. I'm back in town and I'm here to stay," Lorne said settling down at the table. "The lure of show business has lost its luster. Now I'm back and doing it for the kids. Teaching that is. Tell me kitten, how soon are we losing you? I'd hoped we'd have a few days to make a quick trip to New York for school supplies."

"I'm leaving tonight," Veronica replied with a frown. "I would have loved to have gone to New York with you. But Archie and I are heading to Paris for a week before I start college."

"Thanks to a certain very generous friend," Archie added, wrapping his arm around Veronica's shoulders.

"So you must be Archie," Lorne said giving him the once over. "Oh Rhonda... where did you find this cutie. He is divine!"

Veronica grinned. "Here, sort of," she said. "We had a class together, but he started coming in on my nights and we became friends. Then some stuff happened and we ended up going to prom together and the rest was history."

"Ahhh. Young love. So wonderful," Lorne said dreamily, "It's like when Tino and I first moved to Fandom. So are you both going to the same school? Where are you going to college?"

Veronica's grin slipped for a half a second, but she recovered quickly. "I'm going to Hearst College, back home in Neptune," she said.

"I'm not going to college, actually," Archie added, somewhat abashed. "I had a job offer in San Diego I couldn't turn down."

"Really? What's the job sailor?" Lorne asked Archie. "And how far is neptune from LA? Just in case I need to swing by if I do a nightclub tour."

"Maritime museum work," Archie explained. "Knowledge about sailing in my time seems to be at a premium. As for the distance between Neptune and Los Angeles . . ." He looked helplessly at Veronica.

"Only an hour or so," Veronica said. "But only if it's the same dimension."

"I'll make sure it is," Lorne replied. "Sounds like you two are pretty serious. In honor of your soon to be departure, I would be happy to sing a little tune in your honor. Your choice."

"Hmm," Veronica glanced at Archie. "Do you know 'You'll Never Walk Alone?'"

"Honey... Do you have to ask?" Lorne said heading toward the stage (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomtownies/1042421.html?thread=44535797#t44535797).

When he returned he was mopping his brow and had another sea breeze in his hand. "Oh dear. It's been too long since I had a regular singing engagement. Was it good for you two darlings?"

"It was wonderful," Veronica said, giving him another hug. "I am so glad I got to see you before I left. And I'm hoping to be back for Homecoming in a couple of months."

Archie bit his lip, wishing he could say the same. Instead, he put on a slightly forced smile and said, "Lorne, that was wonderful. Thank you -- I couldn't have asked for a better sendoff."

"Well when you two drop by town? You better come see your favorite lounge lizard," Lorne said leaning over and hugging V. "Or I'll be forced to spread horrible rumors about you all."

"We will," Veronica promised. "Take care of yourself."

Lorne give V another peck on the cheek and Archie a firm handshake. "Just remember to name your first born after me. Krevlornswath Mars-Kennedy has a nice ring to it. But I'll leave you two be. Mwah!"

Archie looked just a touch pale after that pronunciation. "First born?" he repeated to Veronica with a half-embarrassed, half-uncertain laugh.

Veronica looked horrified at the concept of having children.

"... I have no words," she admitted.

"You know him better than I," Archie replied; between the two of them, their facial expressions were probably a comedic masterpiece in still-life. "Can we dismiss it as just a case of Lorne being Lorne?"

"I think that's a fabulous idea," Veronica agreed quickly.

She took a moment to look around and then sighed. "I'm going to miss this place."

Archie wrapped his arms around her with a sigh of his own. "So many Tuesday and Thursday nights spent here . . . I'll miss it too."
