Caritas, Friday Evening

Sam frowned as she looked out the door to Caritas. It was the middle of November. Where the heck was the snow? There was supposed to be snow. "Stupid sky."

She took her place behind the bar and began designing a snow machine. Not that it would work, but it was the point of the thing.

It was Friday. Jack was of the opinion that this was a Good Thing. The only things which could make it better would a drink and a thingie, which was why he was leaning on the bar. "Whatcha doing?"

"In the bar?" he asked, grinning at her. "Won't that be messy when it melts?"

"Up to? Nothing." Smiling, he leaned further over the bar, planting his elbows and looking innocently up at Sam. "Why, what have you heard?"

"Nothing but trouble?" Jack arched an eyebrow and flashed her a wicked grin.

"And that's true enough. Trouble makes life fun." He laughed, and sat up, pressing his hand to his heart. "Alas, I've been incredibly well behaved lately. Can't imagine why that is," he mused, wicked grin turning into a warm smile.

"You're a hell of an influence on me," Jack admitted - and it was something that still surprised him - then blinked at her. "Detention again? What happened?"

"Ah well, a detention from Vader is practically a badge of honour. And since his idea of proper respect probably consists of cowering and kissing his feet, it's never going to happen," he reached out to squeeze her fingers, "at least not from you."

Nodding in understanding, Jack said, "You'd have detention for the rest of the year. Might be worth it, though." Wanting to steer them away from unpleasant topics, he decided to change the subject. "I'll admit, I'm disappointed. I was hoping you might run me ragged on Saturday, exhaust me until I can hardly move."

"Nothing specific. Thought I'd place myself entirely in your control. Your every wish, my command." Jack hid a grin. "I'm sure you could think of something to do with me. But you'll be in detention," he added sadly.

"That works. I've got gun club at noon, so that'll just whet my appetite." He traced a series of arcs on the bar, then tilted his head, the corner of his mouth quirking into a smile. "What do you think? The gym? Or somewhere else."

"The gym it is. And there's other ways to build endurance, but they need a second," or a third, or a fourth, "person," he teased. "But if I can't find anyone, I'll run around the island a few times."
