Outside MCA [Saturday afternoon]

Anakin had not had the easiest night, but he'd promised Rose that they'd go flying today, so he was waiting out in front of the apartment building for her to arrive, his cloak pulled close around his body.

[OOC: Anakin's here for Rose, but will be okay chatting to passers-by as he waits.]

Rose arrived at the apartment with a huge grin on her face, "Hi!"

Anakin smiled back. "Hi!"

Rose looked-up the building, "So, your ship's there, is it?"

"Well, a ship," Anakin said. "I'm more of a starfighter type and this shuttle...isn't that sexy."

He led her towards the stairs leading up to the ship, then pointed it out.

"The shuttle Tydirium," Anakin said, making a face.

Rose was still impressed, "Well, the ships I've seen certainly don't hold a candle to this, even if it's just a shuttle."

"My son had an X-Wing starfighter," Anakin said as he pressed the release to lower the walkway. "I've always wanted to try flying one of those. It looked very similar to a ship I used to have."

"You have a son?" Rose said, "You look just like my age!"

"More of that time displacement," Anakin said. "My son's a student here."

Rose shook her head and smiled wryly, "To think I thought missing a year was bad."

"I missed his entire childhood," Anakin said, walking into the shuttle and flipping the control panel to life. "He's practically my age."

Or at least the age he looked. "It's strange."

"Yeah, it is." Rose agreed, "Bet it isn't the strangest thing to happen to you. Not in this place at least."

Anakin waved Rose towards the copilot's seat. "I was bit by a gremlin a couple of times when I was a student," he said. "Those were...interesting experiences."

Rose sat on the copilot seat, and chuckled, "I heard those were quite something."

"They were a menace," Anakin said firmly. "I'm convinced the pirate will never let me live down the vampire slayer mistake."

If she was drinking right now she'd have spit take at that one.

"A vampire slayer what?"

Anakin blushed. "Well, you'll probably hear about this anyway, and it happened years ago. I got bit by a gremlin and believed I was a vampire slayer--and a girl. There was halter-wearing and then an extremely bad song choice at Caritas."

He linked his fingers together and stretched them out, then reached for the controls. "Ready to take off?" he asked.

Rose laughed, "Oh, no wonder no one's letting you live that one down!" She nodded at Anakin, "C'mon, let's get this baby off the ground!"

Anakin grinned sheepishly. "Not my best moment," he admitted, then gave Rose a quick rundown of the control panel. "Comms, navigation, fuel, air pressure...it's a bit like driving a bus, really," he said.

And yes, he drove a bus. It was traumatizing to his summer seminar students.

Rose nodded, "'Kay got it, nav, comms fuel and air pressue."

Anakin smiled, a rare flash of pure joy in his eyes. "And acceleration," he said, taking off at an angle a bit too steep for a normal pilot.

But Anakin had never done anything by the book.

Rose's only response to laugh, for the pure joy of being off the ground, away from all concerns of the Earth.

Anakin's lips quirked up as the Earth shrank behind them. "End of the solar system far enough for you?" he asked.

She was breathless. She was in space again and the Earth looked as lovely and beautiful she remembered it being from a far.

She flashed the biggest grin she had at Anakin, "For a start."

Anakin grinned back as he took them past Mars, then out towards deeper space.

Finding a part of space without any huge gravity pulls, he slowed the shuttle down. "You want to try it?"

Rose's eyes sparkled, "Can I? Really?"
