After hanging out at the meet-and-greet earlier that morning, Chad at least didn't need to take time for lunch before getting to work after opening the store, because, hey, food. He did need coffee, though. Lots of it, because he'd gotten up early for that thing. Earlier than he had in a while. And he knew he'd actually have to make a habit out of this early thing for his workshops. He grunted, and drank more coffee.

Here's there. To be talked at because he's probably too tired to do much talking back. Not that he ever really does much anyway.

Nadia was fresh off the TARDIS from one final stop in New New York, having bid her ~~handwavey 'cause he's not in the game anymore~~ farewells to the Doctor.

So, naturally, the first place she went? Totally Empire.

Except it wasn't Empire, any more.

So there she was, her backpack slung over her back, her cat slung over her shoulders (his choice, not hers), staring around the music store like someone had done something horrible to a favorite neighbor's puppy.

"Chad! What happened to Empire?!"

Like Chad would be able to talk about the state of Empire when she just comes breezing in like that.

"Holy crap, Nadia!" He grinned, and then amended, "If you're Teddy playing a really cruel joke or trying to test me, I'm going to be so pissed."

Nadia just kind of stared for a moment. "If that's the kind of thing Teddy does to you, I'm going to kick his ass. I know new ways to do that, now, too,"

Chad rubbed the back of his neck a little, grinning softly. "Yup, definitely genuine Nadia. You back? Or you just stoppin' in? How'd that whole adventures in space or whatever it was thing go?"

"Um, yes, probably not, and," Here, she broke into her own huge grin. "Fantastic. You know, I almost met Elvis? We got a little side-tracked on that, though. Plus, I totally helped send a version of the devil into a black hole at the other end of the universe."

After a moment of consideration, Chad asked, "We talking early my-hips-make-women-faint Elvis, or Vegas-nearly-unfortunate-demise-or-fifty-million-other-theories Elvis?"

"The first one. Ended up in England for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II instead, though. It turns out it's really, really hard to properly aim the TARDIS, or something. Or the Doctor might have been messing with me. But it turned out it was a good thing we were there, because there was this thing in people's TVs eating their faces off." Then, rather than explain that, she finally went running over to give Chad a big hug. Not that any silence lasted very long. "Oh! Oh! And I met Queen Victoria! She totally banished me from England!"

"Oof." At the impact of the hug, Chad returned it, giving Nadia a careful little squeeze.

"Banished from England?" he asked. "Awesome."

"Well, Britain, really. Which, you know, at the time included half the planet. Not that it stuck, 'cause that was before we went after the TV thing. . . . Actually, we were in England a lot. I think the Doctor really likes London, or something."

"Well, he did have that accent, didn't he?" Chad asked, trying to remember, but he didn't think he talked to the Doctor much.

"Yeah. He definitely talked like a Brit." Furrball jumped from her shoulders to the floor and started twining around Nadia's legs, and she pulled back from the hug. "But it was fun. We saved the Olympics. And met some famous French woman . . . I can't remember her name, but . . . but, yeah. I'm back. Did you miss me?"

"'Course I did," Chad said, with a small smile. "Hasn't been as exciting around here without you an' Pippi around."

Her smile slipped slightly at the reminder of how many people weren't going to be around, any more, but Nadia did her best to keep it in place. "But there's lots of fun new people, right?"

"Oh, yeah," Chad nodded. "Definitely." He tried to remember exactly when Nadia had left, to determine who was new and who wasn't to her, couldn't quite recall, so he went with the safe route of the new-new kids that just showed up, and then just decided maybe to talk about some of the things that had been happening. "And Fandom's always Fandom. Like, Teddy was a puppy all weekend, for his birthday an' everything. Oh! And I got a cat! Maaan, an' he didn't come today because all the new people made his nervous." He nodded to Flopsy and Mopsy nearby. he didn't know where the other one was. "Melody, the lady who bought Empire, lets us bring our cats in. Those are hers."

Nadia turned to look in the direction he was nodding in. "Well, that's cool . . ." Did it make up for the fact that it wasn't Empire any more? She wasn't sure yet. "So is she the one who . . . changed the name and stuff?"

"Yeah," Chad nodded, looking around just a little. "S'still kind of hard to get used to, you know?" Leaning down toward Nadia, he whispered with a small grin, "I feel like I'm working in a throwback seventies gay porn emporium. Without any of the perks of a throwback seventies gay porn emporium."

"You mean, like the gay porn?" Nadia smiled again at that, but it faded again as she looked around.

What if the whole island had changed like this? She wasn't sure she could handle sticking around, even for people like Chad, Blair, and the others who she still knew and cared about.

"Anything else big I should know about?"

"Um..." Chad straightened, scratching his head. Again, he couldn't remember exactly what was going on when Nadia left. So many things blurred. "I dunno. We got a new dean, but I don't remember if you still here when Dean the Tick left....That's really all I can think of."

". . . I think that was right around the time I left, I guess. It . . . it has only been two months, right? I'm not suddenly like three years in the future, or anything?"
