The Devil's Nest - 7/5
After a fairly enjoyable and laid back day, Neil headed down to the Nest for his weekly shift.
Things were pretty clean but it never hurt to go over everything at least once more and after he set out bowls of pretzels and other bar snacks, Neil headed out to clean in the lounge and on the dance floor.
He was keeping an eye on the bar though, in case anyone needed a drink!

The Bar - 7/5

Re: The Bar - 7/5
"Good evening!" He called out cheerfully. "What can I get for you tonight?"
Re: The Bar - 7/5
Re: The Bar - 7/5
"Sure thing!" He said with a smile reaching under the bar to get a tall glass.
In short order some ice cold orange juice was poured into the glass, a straw added and Neil even risked the wrath of Mazikeen to add the umbrella.
"Here you go."

Re: The Bar - 7/5
"The boss seems content whether it's busy or quiet so, it's a fairly good job, especially around exam time."
Grinning he shifted and held out his hand.
"I'm Neil, by the way, Neil Perry. Are you new to the school?"
Re: The Bar - 7/5
Andrew grinned. The place might not be that busy, the help sure was nice.
Re: The Bar - 7/5
"Nice to meet you, Andrew and I know what you mean about simply sitting in the dorms. Don't get me wrong, sometimes the mischief in the common rooms can be fun but not when it's a nice night to be out and about."
Re: The Bar - 7/5
"So Neil, you're a student? Where are you from? How did you land the sweet bar tending gig?"
Re: The Bar - 7/5
Grinning again he picked up a pretzel and spun it between his fingers.
"I am a student, rising senior this upcoming year. I'm from Vermont, 1950s era and I landed this gig because ... well because I think it amused the boss on some level to hire me really, because I'd never tended bar in my life."
Re: The Bar - 7/5
He snapped back to reality.
"Wait. You're from the 1950s? I've met an alien, a talking frog, and plenty of people that seem to know me, or at least some version of me, and I don't really know them, but I think you might be my first official blast from the past! What's that like, being here during this time?"
Re: The Bar - 7/5
"Isn't it a wonderful play?" He agreed, practically beaming. Then he laughed softly and nodded. "There are some amazing folks on this island and going to the school. I'm just your normal average kid from the 50s. It's been, a bit of a steep learning curve but honestly?"
Neil looked around then lowered his head blushing for a moment before peeking back up at Andrew as he admitted.
"I've had the hardest time with the whole coed dorms, heck coed rooms. I came from an all boys prep school, not used to having girls running around everywhere."
Re: The Bar - 7/5
He took another long sip of his juice and exclaimed, "An all boys prep school!" As though the idea was foreign but still totally exciting. "Girls are fascinating creatures and almost completely impossible to figure out - a *mystery* for the ages. But an all boys prep school? What was that like?"
Re: The Bar - 7/5
The twinkle in Andrew's eye was kinda distracting also ... or perhaps that should be worrisome?
"It was very different from here. Extremely regimented, most of the student body were scions from very old money families of the era and were there basically making connections with their peers to carry them through the ivy schools and on in to the business world."
Reaching under the bar, Neil fixed himself a soda, checking to see if Andrew needed a refill as he continued.
"My family isn't one of those, I was in through a combination of scholarships and my father and mother pinching every penny but, now I'm here and I will completely agree that girls are fascinating and kinda scarey creatures and as most of them can kick my ass, I say for the squirrels who are listening that they are also very beautiful and wonderful young ladies!"
That last bit he said in a bit of a raised voice, just to make sure the squirrels heard that bit, while at the same time, giving Andrew a wink.
Re: The Bar - 7/5
When Neil winked, Andrew must have put a little more more pressure on his glass than he intended, because it toppled over and into his lap.
"Oh, god. I'm sorry. I've done gone and made a mess on your floor." He shut his eyes, thinking Typical.
Re: The Bar - 7/5
"Hey, no don't worry about it," Neil quickly reassured Andrew. "Here, let me get you a refill and I'll get that cleaned up in a jiff."
... Might help to give him a towel for his lap?
"Oh, drat, sorry I mean .. here," Neil quickly handed a clear bar towel towards Andrew and then set his hands on the bar counter, hoping neatly over to the other side so he could clean up what had spilled down on the floor.
Re: The Bar - 7/5
"I am so sorry," he said. "I'm normally not this much of a klutz." Total lie.
He dropped down on a knee to help wipe up what had gotten on the floor. Totally not making eye contact, "Do you like comic books?"
Re: The Bar - 7/5
Instead, he sat back on his heels and grinned.
"I actually was reading some earlier this summer. Friend of mine leant me his copies of Ninth Wonder. They were really good. A lot different from the few comics I saw in the dime stores back home."
Neil paused, realized he was babbling a bit and with a quick duck of his head, went after an invisible bit of juice.
"Do you have some comics in particular that you like?"
Re: The Bar - 7/5
He didn't even want to think about the worth of those comics Neil had seen in the dime store's of his time. "I have one or two from the 50s. Well, two. You know that time was considered the end of the golden age for comics. Some of the most memorable characters to ever be inked came about then." Andrew stopped, realizing his mouth was running but he wasn't sure what it was saying anymore.
He stood up and tugged at his wet and sticky clothing. He pulled out his wallet, unsuccessfully trying to cover up the Ratguy emblem on the front. "How much do I owe you." Still with the not making eye contact.
Re: The Bar - 7/5
"No charge for the mixer," he said.
"I'd like to see your comics," pause ... err ... did that come out right?
"I mean, I really enjoyed what I read of the Ninth Wonder and wouldn't mind getting in some more enjoyable reading before school starts in earnest in the Fall."
Re: The Bar - 7/5
He looked around the bar, "Stop by my room sometime and you can look at what I've got. My aunt should be shipping some more comics to me sometime this week, though, I haven't even tried to find the post office yet."
Andrew looked at Neil, "It was good meeting you Neil. Really do stop by. It's room 201."
He smiled, "I should probably go now. Hit the showers and all that."
Re: The Bar - 7/5
"I'm up on the third floor, 314 and I'll definitely try to stop by before the summer gets too far away from us."
Holding his hand out again, the grin expanded into a proper smile.
"And because it bears repeating, welcome to Fandom, Andrew."
Re: The Bar - 7/5
"See ya' around."
Andrew left the bar, sticky, but with more hop in his step than when he had come in.

Placing it on the bar in front of Leo, he smiled again.
"There you go, Sir. Will there be anything else?"
