Flag Football Scrimmage, The Park, Sunday Afternoon

The park was set up for the flag football scrimmage. Lines had handwavily been chalked and would wash away in the next rain. Students and townies were encouraged through incredibly beautiful handwavey posters to attend and bring chairs.

Willow was there with her blue cap, clipboard, and whistle. She was also dressed in a blue shirt, blue shorts, blue socks, and blue sneakers. Let it never be said she couldn't follow a theme.

"Okay players, gather 'round!" she called out. "Today's our first game and I know you guys are going to do great because you are awesome and wonderful and the best players ever and if any of you start slacking so help me you're not getting cookies after the game I don't care how much you try to give me puppy eyes yes Sam Winchester I'm looking at you when I say that. But mostly the awesome thing. Which you are. And the other team is not. I mean sure some of them are our friends and we can like them in that capacity and all but as far as the game goes we're the better players! And we'll prove it!

"Now don't forget everything we've practiced and if you do forget do your best to fake it really well. Do not be afraid to use the power of shirtlessness whether you're a boy or a girl. Tripping the other team is not encouraged by the rulebook but on the other hand it can be helpful.

"Make sure you stay hydrated and if anybody has to hit the bathroom go now or hold it to the end.

"Now get out there, play like amazing players who play amazingly and WIN THIS GAME! CLEAR EYES, FULL HEARTS, FAILURE IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE POSSIBILITY REGARDLESS OF ITS STATISTICAL LIKELIHOOD! GO BLUE!!!"

John didn't know exactly how to inspire his peers to do their flag football best. He settled for mangling famous quotes. He began, "Okay, gold team, this is our first scrimmage against the blue team. They have some trash talkers on their side, but we've got the muscle on ours. I just want you guys to go out there and give it your all, be all that you can be. Remember: They may take our flags, but they'll never take our freedom! Kick Blue Team butt!" Hopefully his teammates would at least respond to that cheer.

River really missed Buffy's enthusiasm here, but she was determined to make her roomie proud should she ever see footage from this. Hence there was a lot of jumping, kicking and pom poms.

Molly was there, cheering as loud as she could for the gold team. She hoped a few more cheerleaders would show up so they could do some tosses or other cool routines.

Sabriel had gone by the Perkolator and bought an iced tea before coming to the Park and sitting down to watch. She had no idea what the rules to the game were, but hoped it would be amusing.

That is, if she didn't melt first.

Mary had spread out a beach blanket on the grass and was camped out with a big picnic basket, courtesy of Gunther. She had plenty of food to share.

It was hot, but the temperature was supposed to hit 111° F in Las Vegas today, making Fandom seem balmy in comparison.

With one son on either team, John was going to end up both cheering and commiserating no matter who won.

He found a spot to sit that had a bit of shade and settled in to watch.

Jeff wandered into the park in yet another futile attempt to find a certain item. His audience-ship was mostly accidental.

Which is to say that he figured the game was a good enough reason to give up and sit down, as it decreased his blurt-potential considerably. Even if he had no idea what it was.

Irulan was quite thankful she chose to wear a headdress when she decided to venture out and watch Evie's flag football. Although, her choice of clothing is very much a mistake.

Faile came to watch since John had told her it would be a learning experience. Choosing a spot under a shady tree, she watched the people more than the actual game. She soon became very warm since still only had her dresses that were more suited to winter weather. With a quick look around to see if anyone was watching her, she unbuttoned her cuffs and collar.

A.J. showed up long enough to put up the Blue Team banner (sufficiently glittery and everything with everyone's name on it). He looked around to try to catch Willow's eye, give her a thumbs up to show that he hadn't forgotten, and then hurry back to work before he was hopefully noticed ducking out real quick.
