Caritas - Sunday evening [Open]

GOB was having a quiet night tonight. Or at least he was until the zombies decided to play nothing but Cher. At that point, GOB was having a drunk night.

Meanwhile, Tino put up a sign:
Help Wanted
Someone needed to work the bar on Thursdays.
No experience or people skills needed.
Inquire at the bar.

[OOC: INFO FOR THE NEWBIES:

Caritas is a karaoke bar. The zombie band are undead musicians who seemingly know every song you might ever consider singing. Alcohol is served to minors. Tino is the NPC bartender who you can always mod if you don't want to deal with the person running the bar that night. And any attempted violence will teleport the person attempting the violence elsewhere on the island.

Anders wasn't here to drink. That would be a really bad idea.

He was a boy with a mission, though, and that mission sent him marching straight up to the bar at Caritas.

Okay, not marching so much as shuffling, but purposefully.

"Have you got a replacement for Thursday night yet?"

GOB looked up from his drink. "Thursday night?" He turned around and saw the sign Tino put up. "Oh, Thursday night. The job. No, haven't filled that yet."

In all honesty, GOB hadn't even realized that a job had opened up. That's what Tino called "poor management." Not to GOB's face, of course.

"Can I take a shot at it?" Anders, for his part, wasn't exactly the good-at-job-interviews type and wouldn't know which end of a resume was up.

Yes, he really said "take a shot," as in "at a goal." He was still in Jock Mode.

"So, you're interested in tending bar?" GOB asked. "I'll tell you what, answer a few questions for me and we'll see."

Anders shrugged. He really hadn't thought this idea through very much, but what the hell? "I've been here every Thursday night this year, just about. I figure I know about what to do by now, so . . . fire away."

"A customer has had way too much to drink and has been getting loud and you think he might get violent," GOB said. "What do you do?"

"Keep him the frak away from the stage," Anders replied instantly. "And hope if he does anything funny it gets caught on film."

And hope if said customer did get violent, it was Tino who ended up getting punched instead of him to trigger the spell, but he wasn't going to mention that part within Tino's earshot.

"Good answer," GOB said. "But you forgot to make sure that he pays his tab before he punches anyone. But still, good answer. Second question. You see somebody who's so far over their personal limit that there might be a concern about their health. What do you do with them?"

". . . make sure they don't explode on anything that's gonna stain?" Clearly, Anders had never read any of those online job-hunting FAQs that tell you how not to handle interviews.

Whether or not that was a good thing remained to be seen.

"And if they do explode?" GOB asked. Not that he was aware of any drink that would make someone explode, but maybe kids nowadays knew something he didn't.

"Sucker somebody into cleaning it for free?"

One of the top things on those job interview FAQs was never to answer questions like you were desperate to please, but again, Anders had never read those things.

"Close, but no cigar. The correct answer is 'Have Tino clean it up,'" GOB said. "That's the answer to any mess you see or make."

"Okay, one last question. Can you get the band to play anything but Cher? It's driving me nuts."

Anders coughed. "I did say sucker, didn't I?" It wasn't exactly what he'd meant, but hey.

He grimaced a little at the thought of having to go talk to the band, but he headed toward the stage and had a word with the zombie guitarist that might or might not have had anything to do with places online to find the best . . . ahem, zombie adult entertainment. (Not that he actually looked at the stuff, he just happened to stumble across it on a distressingly regular basis.)

The band promptly struck up a spirited rendition of "That Ain't No Way to Treat a Lady."

Well . . . he hadn't gotten them out of the 70s, but it was something.

"You're hired. You start on Thursday," GOB declared.

"Seriously?" Anders had really not expected that to work. "Wow. Um, cool. I'll be here. Do I get to kick Tino around?"

"That's half the fun of the job!" GOB said. Tino glared at GOB. GOB didn't notice.

Anders did notice, and he might have gotten a slightly evil smile on his face for a second. "And that answers my question about benefits, I guess."

"You also get a discount on booze," GOB said. "Those are all the benefits you should need."

Anders shrugged. "More than I was looking for in the first place, honestly. Thanks, man."

Sit in a chair.
