Turtle and Canary - Friday

When Sora came into open the store, he some how seemed to have won over Apu. Maybe it was because of the squishy flavors that he chose for today, maybe he was just in a good mood. Who knew?

Stil he was actually letting Sora help him out with stocking the shelves!

Today's Squishy Flavors: Curry, Mango, Red

He's there and happy

He's pretty happy to that Apu seems to like him now!

Since A.J. had said this was the best place to buy those pens she wanted, Beauty wandered over to the store sometime in the afternoon.

It didn't look like any general store she'd ever seen, though, so she stood just inside the doorway and looked around uncertainly.

Sora saw her come in and gave her a small wave with a bright smile. "Hi! Welcome to Turtle and Canary, can I help you find something?"

The wave and smile were encouraging, so Beauty ventured a little further into the store.

"I hope so? I was hoping I could buy a pen here. The kind that has the ink inside of it already," she specified.

"We've got lots of those," Sora said continuing to smile. "They're over this way," he said and motioned for her to follow him to an isle that seemed to be completely devoted to stationary supplies of all kinds. "Does this help?"

Well, it certainly proved that such pens existed, but now Beauty was faced with a choice she hadn't expected. "Um...is there one that's better than another? I suppose I'd want one that had a nice smooth nib."

"Uhhmmmm," he grabbed a package of blue ballpoint pens. "I've used these for school and they write pretty well."

They weren't as attractive as the pen she had in her room, but they also didn't appear to come with an inkwell that was prone to spilling and left rings wherever you sat it.

"All right," Beauty said. "That's what I want them for, is my classes. Ooh...is the ink actually blue?"

"Yep! There's also black and I think we some that are purple and red too," Sora smiled.

Beauty's eyes lit up. "Are they very expensive, to get different colors?"

Not that she needed purple and red pens. But if they came that way, how could she resist?

"Not really, you can get a whole bag of them for a couple of dollars," he explained.

The purple pens were really fun.

A couple of dollars...was less than she'd spent on the ice cream. That was perfect. Beauty looked positively gleeful as she picked herself out a multicolored selection of pens.

Then a thought occurred to her. "Oh...do you have those, um...they're yellow pieces of paper, cut in squares, and they're sort of glued together in a block at the edge?"

"We sure do!" He reached over and grabbed a pack of post-it notes and handed them too her. "These come in different colors too."

"Really?" Oh, that was better yet, she thought. "Then I guess I'd like some of those too, please. In different colors."

Beauty unconsciously bounced a bit on the balls of her feet, pleased with her discoveries.

"Okay," Sora smiled and laughed as he grabbed a couple of different colors of those for her. "Do you like to write a lot?"

"Oh no, the paper is for a friend. He's making a mural," Beauty explained. Then she grinned and added, "But I'm not sharing the pens. He'll have to get his own."

"That's really cool! What's the mural of?" He asked.

"I...don't really know," Beauty laughed. "It's more like a collection of designs, added together bit by bit. I suppose I should call it more of a mosaic, than a mural. Of patterns fitted together, rather than parts of a picture. I think it's really interesting, I've never seen art done that way before."

"Huh, I don't know if I have either," Sora laughed slightly. "But I've only been around here since the begining of the school year."

"Just this fall, you mean? So have I. The only reason I even know about it is because I decided to go and get my lunch someplace other than the cafeteria one day."

Feeling as though she ought to express some kind of solidarity with her fellow new-students, she held out her hand. "I'm Beauty."

"You are huh." It took Sora a moment to realize what he said and he blushed deeply looked surprised at himself.

"I mean! Uh.. I'm Sora!" He plastered on a smile and held out his hand.

Beauty blushed just as red, but she shook his hand and gamely replied, "It's nice to meet you, Sora."

After so many years of having the most unsuitable name possible, she found herself wondering every time whether the response to it was complimentary or amused. The fact that it could be complimentary was disconcerting.

"What, um...which class are you in? I mean, I'm in the 'junior' class, although I have no idea why it's called that."

"It's nice to meet you too Beauty," he smiled sheepishly. "I think I'm in the freshman class? I was out of school for about two years before I came here so it's hard to say, but I'm going to be sixteen this May."

"I'm sixteen as well," Beauty said. "But I've never been to school before this one. I suppose they just assigned me to a class. Or, at least, the person who sent me here did. Have people been telling you stories about strange things that are supposed to happen here?"

"Strange things?" Sora tilted his head curiously and smiled. "No, but things that are strange to other people don't always seem that way to me."

"Well, I was told that once in a while students fall under enchantments and turn temporarily into animals," Beauty explained. "And that once there was some kind of trouble with a thing called a dinosaur, which is like a dragon. So far I haven't seen anything like that, but then to me, the workings of a telephone are stranger than the idea of a dragon, so I may not be a very good judge."

Sadly those things didn't seem all that odd to Sora, but there was good reason for that. "Really? Huh, I thought that sort of stuff only happened when you traveled between worlds. I went to this one world that everytime I went there I turned into a lion cub and another were I turned into a merboy. Dragon's can be really annoying though, I had to fight a Heartless Dragon so I hope they don't show up again."

Beauty would have remarked on the rest of what Sora said, except that she got stuck on one particular thing.

"You fought a dragon?"

"Yeah! It was really tough too so I really hope I don't have to again," he chuckled.

"So do I!" Beauty exclaimed. "I've never even seen one, outside of illustrations and paintings. Although they always said that there was supposed to be a dragon, or a griffin, living north of our town."

"A griffin? Cool, I remember reading about them when I was little," Sora smiled brightly. "What kind of world are you from?"

"Um..."

Beauty had never thought about the possibility of different worlds. She'd just assumed that some places in this one were more foreign than others. "I'm not sure. I guess I had assumed it was the same world as this one, just earlier. In the past."

"Huh, so it's one of those alternate dimension things then?" That was the one concept that Sora was still getting used to.

Beauty was a step behind Sora in that regard, because she didn't even know what it meant. "An alternate dimension thing? I'm not sure...I think I just somehow came into the future. But honestly, I'm not at all certain what happened. Is that how you got here? From an 'alternate dimension thing'?"
