Turtle & Canary; Thursday [ 11/08 ]

Turtle was there behind the counter of the store today. It was just a little difficult to see her behind all the paperwork. She had a lot to catch up on from the weekend, but that was fine. It suited her, and made for good cover.

Today's Squishy flavors: Red, Grape Judas, You Don't Want to Know.

"Oooooh, okay." Rikku bounced. "Maybe I can even upgrade bits myself. Like order parts and wire them in. It seems pretty straightforward, I mean, if you knew what part was what."

She considered. "So, uh, how come some of them are huge and they've got boxes and screens and all, and some are little flippy-lid things?"

Ahhh, technical terms. Turtle smiled a little. "Well, the boxes and screens are desktops. The little flippy-lid things are laptops. If you think about the nomenclature enough, you can figure it out. The big ones are more powerful usually, but the laptops are portable. One sits at your desk, the other on your lap, see, although a lot of people just get laptops and will work on their desks with 'em anyway, but you get the point." Blink. "Right?"

"That makes sense." Rikku nodded. "Portable so you can just ... take it wherever you wanna go? Are they still powerful enough that you can do that Internet thing?"

Turtle nodded again. "Ah, the wonders of wireless. It's just got to have the hardware for it, I think, and most of 'em come with it pretty much standard these days, I'm sure."

"It doesn't have any wires?" Rikku asked, confused now. That happened a lot. "Okay! I want one of those. Uh. Actually ... do you promise not to think I'm too weird?"

She lowered her voice. "I kinda ... wanna get two? Like. The same? And one I use, and the other I completely dismantle and look at all the wires and bits and nodes and just really get into? But usually when I do that with things they don't go back the way they should, so it'd be a kind of waste to do that, unless I had a spare? So if I had one to do that with and one to use, that'd be perfect. And I'd understand how it all works and what it all means and if something went wrong maybe I could even fix it. Is that ... crazy?"

Did Rikku....completely forget who she was talking to here? Did she honestly think Turtle would boggle at a chance to make a bigger sale? "Not crazy at all!" Turtle chirped. "In fact, I think it's a really good idea, especially if you're thinking of getting more into computers."

"That's great!" Rikku bounced. "Machina in this world are so awesome! You just have them in stores all lined up with signs on them all 'here, buy one, buy a lot' and they have manuals full of instructions and details on how to use 'em and do you know how amazing that is!?"

Rikku was fully in tech-girl mode, now. And thus not paying attention to things like 'gosh, I'm sure Turtle would hate more money' and 'most people aren't from insane worlds like yours.'

Turtle, however, was in her own full on mode, that of the saleswoman, and therefor she just nodded and smiled congenially. "Very amazing," she agreed. "And there's so much to choose from! You have all these processors and memory cards and video chips and different add-ons, so, really, the possibility to play and poke and build to your heart's content is endless."

"Oooooooooh." That sounded shiny. "Oh, man, I'm just gonna end up tearing one of these apart and playing for hours. I don't even know what half of those even mean. But I can totally get parts and stuff here, right?"

Turtle gave a clear and assertive nod. "Absolutely."

"Okay," Rikku said, nodding. "I'm gonna go see what I can come up with."

She disappeared into the aisles, first looking over the laptops to see if she could make sense of all the numbers. And she found one that seemed good to her - nice keyboard, pretty light, and its specs seemed to be pretty solid, compared to its neighbors. Okay! Two of those.

And then she had to hit up another section for stickers and labels and all that jazz. Because what good was a computer if you weren't going to put crap all over it?

She dumped everything on the counter (carefully) with a grin. "I love this place," she said. "So much fun to just come in and go crazy."

Oh, such sweeter words were never spoken. Turtle positively beamed as she started totaling Rikku up. "Glad to help.l"

"You are awesome," Rikku said, bouncing a little. "I so can't wait to start playing with these. Oh! Can you add a squishie to the total?"

Because she totally needed a red squishie. And was, in fact, hopping over to the machine to get one.

"Done, and done!" Turtle announced happily and gave Rikku the grand total as the SquishyBot prepared her Squishy.

"Awesome!" Rikku fished enough money out of her pouch to cover her grand total, still bouncing, but now, also sucking on a Squishy. Because Squishies rocked.
