Hey, it was Sunday. He was here in Fandom again, so why not swing by the old dig that added to the long line of counter-jockeying that A.J. would spend his life doing waiting for his works to really pick up? Mosey on down, hop behind the counter and see what's changed in the last couple of decades.

...Which, apparently, wasn't much at all. "Huh," A.J. commented, looking around, and then...

"Oooh, special's board." Delightfully blank and waiting. Time to get to work.

Luke's is open.

Since Beauty hadn't yet encountered any of the "reunion" folks, she was a little taken aback to see an unfamiliar man -- who was, yet, awfully familiar-looking -- behind the counter. She felt her stomach drop, worried suddenly that A.J. was still sick and this man was taking over his shift.

"Um...excuse me, sir?" she said softly, slowly approaching the counter. "Is A.J. here today?"

"Har har," A.J. rolled his eyes as he figured a little design in the bottom right corner of the specials board, grinning as he looked over his shoulder toward her. "Good one, Beauty."

And then he did a double take.

"Jesus, Beauty, you haven't changed a bit!"

Beauty's brow furrowed at the...God, he looked familiar. Maybe an older brother, or uncle? The similarity in his expression was eerie.

"Why would I have changed? And...I'm sorry, I don't remember meeting you," she answered hesitantly. "Were you here at Parents Weekend?" Beauty tried frantically to remember ever running into one of A.J.'s family, but she'd have sworn he'd told her no one had come to visit.

"Oh, come on," A.J. rolled his eyes a little again, stepping back from the specials board to get closer, leaning on the counter a bit. "I haven't changed that much. Little rough around the edges," he added, thoughtfully rubbing his unshaven chin with his hand, "but still. But...but you!" He grinned at Beauty, "you look great; time's been a lot better to you. Almost like he forgot about you all together, actually."

Well, he was handsome, Beauty would give him that. But obviously had the advantage on her, since Beauty still couldn't remember ever meeting the man. She also began to suspect that he was playing a joke on her.

Which would have made her a little angry, but he looked so like A.J., it was impossible.

"It's kind of you to say so, but...I honestly don't remember your name. Maybe if you told me when we met before, it would come back to me. I'm really sorry," she added earnestly.

Well, if that wasn't the most disappointing response to a compliment he'd ever received. And A.J. got disappointing responses a lot. At least she didn't pour a drink over his head. That one seemed popular.

"...A.J.?" he said, which was weird, because she came in here asking for him, unless maybe she'd met a different one. Oh, great. Now he wasn't even the only A.J. How lame was that? "Fandom High, 2007?"

...would she really forget him that easily?

The expression on Beauty's face became one of mingled confusion and worry. She stepped a little closer to the counter and peered closely at him.

"But...you were sick in the clinic just a couple days ago, and you didn't look so...I mean, you're..."

Even Beauty had enough tact not to say that he looked old. Which actually, he didn't. He looked good. Just a great deal more mature than she'd been expecting. "Are you really A.J.?" she whispered.

"Hey, man," A.J. said, lifting a hand after a look around and realizing that there didn't seem to be a regular counter jockey around right now, so, hell, he may as well. "What can I get ya?"

"No problem, man," A.J. said, grateful for the fact that there were still kitchen boys, even if they were looking at him oddly when he sent in the order, but, then agian, he couldn't blame them.

Cher had spent her morning on the phone and decided she needed to get out before she went insane. So instead, she and her briefcase wandered down to town to- oh, hey, Luke's was still here.

She stepped inside, ready to set herself up at a table to go over the notes from the deposition again. You could never be too prepared, you know.

A.J. looked around again; nope. Still no employees going over to take that woman's order. Might as well, not like he had anything better to do and it was kind of fun to relive the days at the dinner anyway. "Hey," he hopped over a little to greet her, whipping out a little order pad. "What can I get ya?"

Okay, so maybe he felt a little awkward considering he was way too old to be a counter jockey.

Forget the fact that he was still pretty much doing it between shows.

"Sure, can I just have a... hm. Do burgers kill you this week or are they actually good for your heart again?" she asked, before looking up at him. He looked pretty much the exact same. "Oh my god, A.J.?"

A.J.'s eyes shifted a little bit as if to try to hide the smirk coming onto his face that he would be recognizable (which, hey, also meant that this very pretty woman knew him and he probably knew her, too), and claimed, "Aw, man, you saw through my clever disguise!" He bit his lip, head tilting as he looked back at her and...man, he wasn't quite so good at this. He narrowed it down to two possibilities, but didn't want to say one for the fifty percent chance of getting it wrong.

"It's me, Cher!" she said, because of course everyone should remember her and she was going to pretend that was so. "Seriously, look at you! You're still all cute!"

"Of course I am!" A.J. laughed, although there was some blushing going on behind his blush. And then he stepped back, opening up his arms a little as though that helped him appreciate the view as he gave Cher another look. "And look at you! You look amazing!"
