Caritas, Wednesday Night

Faith wasn't expecting much of a crowd. It was almost Thanksgiving and normal people had families and homes and whatever to get back to.

Then again, this island wasn't in the shouting distance of 'normal.' And more importantly, last time she'd come into work, she'd taken someone home with her.

So Faith opened Caritas bright and early. Hoping nobody wanted Thanksgiving-themed liquor.

Does vodka-and-cranberry count as Thanksgiving-themed? That was the best she had.

Yeah. Thanksgiving was just great when you had people to spend it with.

Renee sat down at the bar, rubbing the back of her neck and trying not to think of family. "Beer and a shot of whiskey."

"You got it," Faith said, serving up a mug and a shot glass. "Happy freakin' holidays."

Downing the shot quickly, Renee winced at the burn. She sighed and eyed her bartender, a look somewhere in between measuring her up for a fight and undressing her with her eyes.

She needed to forget.

"You too."

"Again?" Faith asked, nodding to the shot. "Ain't seen you in here before. You new, or you don't come in on my nights?"

And if it was the latter, she should rethink that, 'cause damn, Faith appreciated the view.

Renee nodded, leaning forward to rest her elbow on the bar. "Just moved here. You?" She asked, sipping her beer.

"Bout a month ago." She shrugged. "Nice town. Weird as fuck. You just missed the death plague that got fixed by tea."

"Yeah-" She downed half the beer. Nothing like a reminder of not being able to do crap to put you in a drinking mood. "-I noticed that when the island I was supposed to go to wasn't there."

She paused, still looking Faith over. It could still be considered innocent if there was a problem, of course. Didn't need to explain to Mustang she got in a fight because someone wasn't too fond of getting hit on.

"Wasn't here?" Faith lifted her eyebrows. "Wow. That's ... downright creepy."

So was this girl checking her out or itching for a fight? Either sounded pretty tempting.

"Hope that's not gonna scare you off," she grinned. Fully meaning it, either way.

Renee just snorted, pulling a pack of cigarettes from her coat pocket and tapping the bottom twice before pulling one out. "It'll take more than a little strangeness for that." She glanced around. "Got a light?"

Barney entered the bar, excitedly motioning for a drink when he realized there was much hotter service than usual. "Well hello there," he said, very obviously looking the bartender over.
