Bluth's Original Frozen Banana Stand, Fri. 2/8

Sky got to work right on time, in spite of another near-sleepless night. Now on top of everything else swimming around in his head, he was worried about Teddy after talking to Chad, and because of the fact that he hadn't seen his little big brother in over a week. Sky really didn't feel like dressing in The Suit today- or ever again- but he also didn't want Mr. Manager to get upset with him (especially because, in the midst of everything, he'd forgotten his promise to pass out flyers during the week), so on the stupid thing was.

He was grumpy and cranky and wasted no time shooing Eddie and his girlfriend off the counter with the broom when he got there, then settled in to read a book and think some more.

Bluth's is open.

Z glanced at the seagulls. "Hey, Sky. What's up with the birds?"

Eddie waddled across the counter until he was level with Z and peered up at her. His girlfriend, meanwhile, decided she'd had enough and returned to their usual bench.

"They hang around here every day," Sky said. "Mr. Manager calls this one Eddie. They try and get people to feed them. And I suppose they think I look pretty tasty, too."

"Well," Z said with a smirk, "you are dressed like a giant fruit." Then she narrowed her eyes at Eddie and suggested, "Beat it."

Eddie blinked and cawed loudly in response.

"You'd better take her advice, bird," said Sky, finally pulling out the slingshot. "She can take you out 4 or 5 different ways. At the same time." Eddie blinked and cawed again, unfazed by the sight of the weapon, as Mr. Manager wasn't a great shot. "And yes, I know, I'm dressed like food. I thought about not wearing it today, but knowing my luck my boss would show up to check on me."

"I think the bird thinks he can take us," Z said ruefully. "Don't you know you should always wear your uniform when on duty? It's in the SPD Handbook."

"Well, yeah, there's that, too," said Sky. "My boss tells me to wear the uniform, so I wear it." He finally set the slingshot down, grabbed the broom, and prodded Eddie with it. "Leave us alone, bird. GO." Eddie finally gave up and flapped off, his girlfriend following him away from the stand. Easy pickings could be had later. Sky watched them go with a huge sigh.

"They're kind of cute," Z said. "In an annoying, feathered way. Does the other one have a name?"

"Sure... cute," said Sky. "No, I just saw the other one for the first time last week. I've been thinking of names for it... most of them crude and immature."

"How about Edwina?" Z suggested. Yes, she thought she was cute.

Sky snickered. "There you go, then. They can have matching names." He readjusted the suit, as it was starting to ride up in all the wrong places and make him uncomfortable. Though he'd never tell Z that.

"I'd like a banana, please. Whatever's cheapest," Z requested.

"Which flavor?" he asked, indicated the menu board. "They're all the same price. Unless you want nuts- nuts are always extra, apparently. I'd love to give you one for free, but Mr. Manager told me to not do that anymore."

It didn't actually matter. She was totally going to feed it to the seagulls. "Umm...original?"

"Coming right up," said Sky, preparing the banana with ease and handing it over. "$1.65, please and thank you."

Meanwhile, Eddie and Edwina had landed on their bench. FOOD FOOD FOOD!

Z handed him two dollars and said, "Keep the change, my good man," with a giggle. Then she broke off a chunk of banana and tossed it to the seagulls.

Sky smirked at her in response, sticking the cash into the drawer. "You're too kind."

Yapping excitedly, said seagulls dove at the offering and pecked at it.

"I'm well-known for my generosity." She sounded like this wasn't exactly something she was happy about. "Wow, they're kind of vicious, aren't they?"

"Yes, which is why, tiny as they are, I try and repel them every time they come near," said Sky. "I imagine those little beaks can hurt."

"Or you could eat the cost of a couple of bananas and send them on their way full, but then they'd probably bring their friends," Z said. "That's how it usually goes down."

"Exactly," said Sky. "Holding off one or two is better than a whole flock. Not as messy, either, I'd imagine," he thought, imagining the stand all covered with bird droppings and wincing.

Z made a face. "Ewww. Maybe I shouldn't feed them. But they look so happy."

"Eh, that'll keep them happy for now, I hope." And indeed, once the banana piece had been picked apart, both seagulls flew back to their bench, watching the human and the GIANT FOOD, squawking.

"Well, my work here is done," Z said. "The world is safe from seagulls for another day. Or at least another five minutes."
