Luke's Diner; Sunday [ 03/30 ]

A.J. was thinking that there was a decent chance that, hey, maybe kids wouldn't really want to bother with a diner. Hopefully. But he was psyching himself up to make lots and lots of little milkshakes just in case, and even made an actual special today instead of just drawing something obscure and abstract: PB&J with the crusts cut off and a glass of chocolate milk. He could even make that one himself!

Luke's is open!

Ino looked mutinous. "Chocolate, pleeeeeeeease. 'Cause Daddy's not here and so I'm allowed."

"Hey, hey, just making sure. If Chocolate's what you want, chocolate's what you get. I wouldn't want that much chocolate, myself, but to each his...or her...own."

"Why would I want anything else?" Ino asked, blinking at him. "Chocolate's the best."

"Well, sure," A.J. said, as he got Ino's milkshake together. "But there's plenty of other good stuff, too, you know."

"Like what?" she asked him, watching like a hawk to make sure he didn't put fruit into her shake.

"Oh, I don't know," A.J. said, definitely not putting in any fruit. "Strawberry? Banana? Raspberry? Cherry? Kiwi?"

"Brussel sprouts?" he threw in, to see if she was paying attention.

She blinked at him, having been paying no attention at all.

"What?"

A.J. grinned. "Never mind. I'm gonna turn on the blender now; it's really loud, so you might want to cover your ears."

Her eyes widened and she clapped her hands over her ears, looking expectantly at him.

A.J. grinned, giving Ino an approving nod as he went to mix her shake. The loud buzzing filled the room and then, finally, milkshake ready, he turned the blender off and gave her a thumbs-up so she knew it had finished, then concluded the process by setting in front of her with a ceremonial, "Ta-dah!"

She beamed at him, hands coming off her ears. "Thank you!" Ino said, "I like your milkshakes."

"Good! I like making them, so anytime you want one, I'm your guy."

Ino bit her lip and looked up at him. "I don't think I could afford that many shakes."

"Well," A.J. said, with a little wink of assurance. "You're good. You're my friend, and friends can get a little leeway when it comes to payment."

"Okay!" she said brightly, sipping her milkshake determinedly. "You can be one of my bestest friends like Annette!"

"Aw, really? Me?"

If A.J.'s face was red, it was from the desperate attempt to not just fall over with lalughing over this.

Ino, of course, took the red face to just mean he was embarrassed. "Uh huh," Ino nodded firmly, "forever and ever."

"Awww, that's awesome. I feel very, very honored, Ino, thank you." He said this all in a very appropriately lofty voice.

She beamed at him. "It's a very important thing being a friend."
