Ding. Ding.

Except of course, when she is at her 3rd period class.

You'd think, at one point, Annette would stop with the signs because the signs were just asking for it.

Yes, she was there. But so was a bell and a sign telling him not to, and so there was also an A.J., ringing the bell repeatedly, quickly with the palm of his hand, and an unabashed grin across his face.

Annette would never stop omigod! She amuses herself greatly!

She didn't look up from the particular doodle she was working on to address the repeated ringing of her bell. Yes, it was her bell. She only very casually tilted her head to the side and raised her brows, doing her best not to grin because although she hadn't looked up yet, she was more than certain who stood on the other side of the counter.

Very politely she said, and of course she had to raise her voice more than a quiet notch to get above the constant ringing, "Someone can't read very well? Someone want to lose any and all post office privileges?"

"I can read just fine, thank you very much," A.J. said, still ringing the bell. "This is just what I think about your institutionalized predjudice against bell ringing. Each one of these rings? If you listen close, they're just saying 'damn the man.' Or, in this case, woman."

Annette's lips quirked ever so slightly, her notebook her attention right now as she added apples to her tree. "No, no, not predjudice at all, because you see, that bell? It's mine and being that it is mine, I can do with it whatever I want. I can make it ring how many times I want just by adding a simple sign. It is the ring law breakers such as yourself that give 'damn the woman' such negative labelism. And you willgotojail!"

"Jail, huh?"

A.J. paused a moment in the bell ringing, just enough to send a pout Annette's way.

And then returned to the repeated ringing.

"Lucky for me, I know a really pretty girl who's going into law, and I know she'll help get me out of this one, 'cause she's all smart and good like that."

Her eyelashes lifted and her eyes met his, saw the pout, and was just about to smile.

But he just kept breaking the ring law.

"Oh yeah? You might want to give her a quick call then because..." she paused for dramatic affect, "...if you don't stop, then I can't be held accountable for my actions."

"Is that a treat?" A.J. asked with an impressed, though offended, tilt of his head. As he kept ringing the bell, although slower this time, because, okay, yeah, even he had to admit that this bell got really annoying after a while.

"Take it how you want," she said, eyes still on his, pencil held still over her notebook. "But I'll give you to the count of five to be fair, how's that for just treatment?" She blinked. Once. "One...two...three...four..."

To the count of five, to see if he was curious enough to want to find out exactly what Annette would count as punishment.

He only needed one second.

He kept purposely ringing the bell.

Yeah, she wasn't expecting him to push her that one extra count so she tried to think fast (which really didn't work) and after that, "five..." she dropped her notebook and pencil as she stood quickly and reached out to snatch the bell out from under his hand.

A.J.'s jaw dropped, although he should have figured that Annette would do something simple and safe like that. It was more fun to pretend to be totally aghast at her audacity, though.

"How could you!"

Well, the thought to pounce on him was overruled by... well, she was here at work and he might've taken offence at her pouncing.

"Hey! You better be glad that's all I did, buddy. I was ready to hog-tie you to my chair!"

"Well, hey, that could be kinda fun, though," A.J. teased with a grin.

Annette did not crack a grin and the effort was nearly killing her. "No, I can assure you, it wouldn't be fun. Not for you. It would be painful and highly annoying. Just like it was for me to hear that bell. Oh, no, you wouldn't like it."

She waited a beat and looked down for fear of cracking up.

"Have you ever been tied up before, A.J.?"

"Not that I can recall," A.J. admitted, "but I am rather open to the idea. It just goes along with being a free spirit and all that crap."

"Well, the whole point is that you're not a free spirit when you are at the mercy of someone else," she said. "But that you're open says much for who you are I think."

"Do it?" A.J. asked, tilting his head with an amused grin. "What does it say, hm?"

"You... want to do it?" she asked, curious. "Well, it says that you're open," d'uh, "and that putting your faith and trust in someone else can be an amazing feeling all unto itself. It also says that you like adventure, and thrills and..." she shut her mouth.

Annette wasn't speaking from experience or anything, nahhhhh.

A.J. arched an eyebrow at Annette.

"You almost sound like you've done this before..."

Which would have been kind of cool. If it weren't for the fact that A.J. didn't need three guesses to figure out who she would have been doing that with.

Annette tried once with Dick. It didn't work. No, she was thinking about when Jack tied her up, but still... none of it was easily explainable.

"I... had a lesson once?"

"A lesson?" A.J. asked, dubiously at first, but then he blinked, remembering where he was currently going to school.

"...Damn. I can't believe I missed that class."

Annette wondered if she would be lying if she just kept her mouth shut? Really, she wasn't actually lying if she said nothing, right?

She suddenly found her bell very very interesting.

"Uh." A Neutral response, really.

I want to be on a float somewhere.
