Luke's Diner; Wednesday [ 04/23 ]

The special on the board today was an elaborate sketching of somewhere underground, a cave of sorts, glistening with the fine sheen of something covered in what looked like ice. On a closer look, one might see that the forms covered in ice appeared to be flames, and there was the small devilish figure, handsome in a long-tailed smoking jacket that went along with the fact that he was smoking, among them.

You see, the special of the day matched with the fact that A.J. was actually studying for his exam coming up.

Hell had frozen over.

And Luke's was open!

He would actually love the interruption.

Ino? Was taking a long lunch break, and had a pounding headache thanks to her music.

On the other hand, Cable-san hadn't talked to her today. That was totally worth the headache.

"A.J.!" Ino greeted him as she wandered in. "Don't suppose you can suggest something with a lot of sugar in it for me to have?" She had every confidence that he could.

"Depends," A.J. said with a slight grin. "What do you define as 'a lot'?"

"Also," he added, "howdy, stranger."

"Hmmm. How ‘bout enough sugar that little-me would’ve passed out?" Which was… quite a lot of sugar really considering the fact that wee!Ino had lived off of sugar for the weekend. "Stranger? Should I be offended by that? Or merely concede that yes, it’s been a while, but I’m glad to see you?"

And she was.

"Definitely no offense intended," A.J. said, holding out his hands a bit. "I'm way to out of it and tired to even think of offending you, but, hey, I'm glad to see you, too. I'm trying to think. I could make you an energy drink milkshake. Those things have so much damn sugar in them, and then added to the ice cream. I can also give you as many sugar packets as you can handle to put into it, too."

"Good," Ino said, with a nod of her head, "because I’m not in the mood to be cranky with another person. Why’re you tired?"

She grinned at the description of the energy-milkshake. "You sure about that? I bet I could use quite a few sugar packets."

"I dunno," A.J. shrugged. "I just can't really seem to get with it today, y'know? Feel just out of it, not really connected. Been trying to study, but... Maybe I should make two of these energy drink and sugar milkshakes...And, well, as far as the sugar packets go, I might have to start charging you after....five hundred."

“Sugar will totally help you study,” Ino informed him. “Not, mind, that I study much all things considered,” not for class at least, “but still. Sugar helps with everything. Really. And five hundred packets…” she struggled to keep a straight face, “I suppose that’s fair.”

"Just as long as I don't end up getting sick. Stomach aches aren't so good with studying..."

Her lips twitched. "Unless you can use the stomach ache to get out of the exam."

A.J.'s mouth opened to say something, and then his eyes shifted slightly to the side. His head tilted, mouth closing again, and a pensive expression took over his face.

"...You...might be on to something there, Ino. You think that might work on someone like Rogers?"

“I don’t know,” she said, leaning against the counter. “What’s he like?”

A.J. considered it carefully from several different angles, and the wrinkling of his nose, with a slightly curled lip probably told Ino well before he even said anything. He started getting together the things for a milkshake.

"...The kind of guy who'd probably point that a sitting for a written exam isn't too much strain on an upset stomach, probably."

She wrinkled her nose. "That's no good then. Maybe just have 'bout half the sugar then? How delicate is your stomach?"

A.J. also considered this. "Pretty delicate. I think I better stick to studying. Thankfully, this is for art history class, so I at least like the topic. It's just the remembering all that stuff that I'm worried about."

“That’s a plus at least,” she mulled over his problem with remembering things for a bit. “Why don’t you try drawing the dates into pictures? Then, all you’d have to do is remember the pictures and that might be easier for you. And it wouldn’t even take that long, I don’t think, if your pictures were small like, say, six-to-eight to a page.”

A.J. grinned slightly at the suggestion as he moved over toward the ice cream cooler. He nodded toward his notebook on the counter. "Go ahead and take a look at that. You'll find tons more pictures in there than you will actual, written notes."

She laughed, tugging the notebook over to her. "Clearly, you are a dedicated student."

"Hey, it's all completely...well, mostly relevant information, just in A.J. form."

"You should claim that as your new language," she nodded. "Though I'm not sure how that'd translate to spoken form."

[And now under the right account! *facepalms* Shhh. ]

"Well, it already is one," A.J. pointed out. "A.J. language is just the language of art, and lots of people understand that one. It doesn't need a spoken form; that's why it's so awesome."
