Groovy Tunes; Monday [ 05/05 ]

It was Cinco de Mayo. This was a very important day, not only because it was Cinco de Mayo, but Cinco de Mayo was also Pippi's birthday, which was still a holiday celebrated fiercely by Chad. He was there today at the store with his mariachi jacket on, musing on bothering Brooke to see if she could design and make a little matching mariachi jacket for Prince Oscar Pedro.

In celebration of the holidays, any Mexican or Swedish imports were on sale for half off.

Today's mix was a bunch of mariachi music, of course, with some ABBA thrown in.

Groovy Tunes was open for a happy Cinco de Mayo Pippi Day!

...Mariachi jacket.

Teddy had to pause to smile at that. "Hey."

"Hey," Chad lifted his chin with the greeting. "Happy Cinco de Mayo."

Suddenly, Chad wished he had something cool to hand to people when he said that. Like little Mexican flags. Or bottles of Mexican beer...

"Happy Cinco De Mayo," Teddy replied, walking toward him to look at the jacket. "ABBA?"

Chad gave the jacket a little bit of a tug to straighten it out a little, noticing Teddy noticing it. It still fit exactly as well as it did when he'd been giving it by the Senor forever ago, he was proud to say.

"Yeah," he explained. "Cinco de Mayo's also Pippi's birthday. So the ABBA's for her."

"Oh." Teddy grinned at that. "That's really nice of you."

Chad shrugged a bit. "Well," he said, "she was one of my best friends. After you, of course," he added quickly. "An' she was the one nice enough to have her birthday on a day that's really easy to remember."

Another grin and Teddy went up on his toes to give him a kiss. "It's still very sweet of you. I know she'd like it."

Chad grinned back a little as he returned Teddy's kiss and asked, "You almost sound surprised I'd do something like that."

"Surprised... nah." Teddy tugged on the jacket for another kiss. "I forgot it was today," He said sheepishly.

Chad hadn't even thought of being tugged on for a kiss as another reason why the mariachi jacket was awesome. It was now definitely on the list.

"I didn't," he said, which, really, clearly, had to be said. "S'one of my favourite days, y'know. Even if I have to work, but I don't mind."

"Guess what."

"What?" He was really trying to not put this off, but... he liked seeing Chad all happy.

"I got a promotion," Chad announced with a nod. "Melody's going on tour so she made me manager so I can take better care of the store while she's gone."

"And I get three extra bucks and hour, too."

Teddy grinned, bouncing up to hug him. "That's great! Congratulations!"

"Yeah, I know," Chad said, hugging back. "Not too bad for, y'know....over a year and a half of workin' here..."

Oddly enough, that wasn't sarcasm.

"You'll be an excellent manager," Teddy said with a nod. "Keep everyone in line and stuff."

"Yeah," Chad said. "'Cause Teyla, she's real hard to keep in line."

He shrugged. "She said I should hire in a few of the new kids if I could, though. But it kinda sucks, 'cause the kittens are going on tour with her."

"You could always get some to keep Oscar company," Teddy suggested, not thinking maybe the kittens would help him too...

Really.

Chad's head tilted slightly.

"More kittens?"

He just had to make sure he was getting what Teddy was saying there; he thought Teddy would know him better than to suggest something like that.

"Maybe?" Teddy took a deep breath, looking around the store. "Um... can we talk in private?"

Private from kittens. Yes.

That didn't exactly help the sneaking suspicion that popped up when Teddy suggested more kittens. "Um..."

He grabbed up something shiny from the counter and threw it lightly across the store. The kittens all alertly looked up when Chad lifted his arm and then moved in a quick dash to follow the arc of whatever it was they could play with, and Chad leaned (carefully) on the counter.

"What's up?"

"My sister called me today."

Teddy looked around the store carefully. "She, um... she wanted to know if I wanted to spend some time with her this summer."

A slightly worried, though well hidden, frown wrinkled Chad's eyebrows.

"She okay?"
