Very Late Wednesday Night: Selkie Cove [5-21-08]

Lana wasn't very interested in trying to sleep in the cabins. Too many people, too hard to keep waking herself up before the nightmares caught hold of her.

Instead she was out on her favorite rock at Selkie Cove, watching the stars and the new coastline. She had a blanket and a thermos of hot chocolate to keep her warm and the moon was almost bright enough to read by. Or in this case, to reflect brilliantly off the waves. It was enough and she was feeling happily content.

After sleeping all day, Ino was so not interested in sleeping more. Even if she probably should, really. As it was, she wandered down to the cove to see if Chris had been telling her the truth about Fandom looking now like a bit of France.

She took a long look at the coastline, not noticing Lana quite yet, and put her hands on her hips. "They totally copied Fandom! Bad France, stealing our coastline!"

Lana jumped a little, but smiled when she saw who it was. "It's pretty, though," she called from up on the rocks.

"They still stole it!" she protested, making her way over to where Lana was. "Fandom did it first!"

A beat.

"Or that's what I think anyway."

"Whatever makes you happy," Lana said with a smile.

[intraspective]

"France stole it then," Ino decided. "And hi, you, I'm totally sorry for sleeping through our lesson today."

"It's okay," Lana said. "You looked like you could use the sleep."

"I needed it," she admitted, "but I'm still sorry. You could've woken me though. Worf did a bit later--came in and started yelling at me."

"Well, that's rude," Lana said. "It's okay, though, I went for a run and worked some on the forms on my own out in one of the clearings so I still got some work in. And really... you've been looking so exhausted..."

She shrugged a little sheepishly. "I know you haven't wanted to talk about stuff much, but I know something's up and I figured you could use some down time."

Ino looked rueful. "I'm not great at the whole talking it out thing, even though I'll tell other people to do that. I've been training more than normal instead, so yeah, more tired. Spent the last four days out in the preserve."

Lana looked more than a little worried. "That... sounds a little extreme," she said carefully."

See? This was so totally the reason why Ino hadn't bothered to tell anyone but Cassandra before taking off for the weekend.

"I'm good," she said, trying to be reassuring. "It was... useful."

"Okay," Lana said, not quite believing her. "I suppose if it worked for you..."

"It was useful," she insisted, "I needed the time to think."

"Okay," Lana said. "Not arguing. Did it help at least?"

Ino shrugged a bit. "Who knows? I mean, I decided what I was going to do about one thing, but that was only a minor issue, you know? The rest of it's... I'm just trying."

"That's all we can do sometimes," Lana said quietly.

That got another shrug.

"So, I'll probably be training a lot more than normal for a good while yet," Ino said, staring at the sky, "I can't think around so many people, not the way I need to."

Lana nodded. "Well, if it works for you. Me? I come out here and just avoid them all."

"I need to move," she explained, "and here, well, there's the chance of company."

Lana nodded. "True."

"Sometimes company is a good thing," she continued, "but sometimes, even if they're trying to help it just clouds your head even more."

Lana nodded again. "I can understand that. Especially when they try to tell you how you should or shouldn't feel without listening to what you have to say."

That got a sidelong glance.

She shrugged a little. "I find that easy enough to ignore, really," Ino admitted, "it's more the different thoughts, if you know what I mean? The different interpretations on the same situation."

Lana shrugged. "I suppose if you're not certain about what you want to do or how you want to handle it. It's not a problem I usually have. People usually just try to tell me I'm wrong."

That got another sidelong glance, and Ino shrugged not saying anything.
