Groovy Tunes; Monday [ 05/25 ]

Chad was making the attempt to create a poster advertising his potential new band, but was not finding a very easy time of it. Prince Oscar Pedro kept nibbing on the edges. Prince Oscar Pedro had also chewed through part of the Now Hiring sign, which was impressive, as it was up on the window. "What," he grunted, pulling the paper out from under Prince Oscar Pedro, "is up with you eating everything lately?"

He solved the problem by crumpling the ball up, and throwing it across the store. Prince Oscar Pedro skittered after it and Chad just sighed, settling behind the counter with a copy of Rollin Stone instead.

Hinata slipped in somewhat nervously, not that the nervousness was new, and glanced around the shop. She brightened upon recognizing Chad. "Chad-san," she greeted him, with a smile. "G-Good morning. Is Prince Oscar Pedro Neko-kun a-around as well?"

"Hinata-san," Chad nodded his head in greeting to the girl, and may have even smiled, just slightly, although you'd have to look quite close. "He is. He's been eating paper, though, so I sent him off to go play. I think he's chased his paper ball somewhere over toward the acoustic blues section right now."

"I-I shall h-have to greet him b-before leaving then," she said, "I'd h-hate to hurt his feelings, a-after all. How have y-you been?"

"He'd like that," Chad agreed with a nod. "An' I've been pretty good; how about you, Hinata-san?"

"I've b-been well," Hinata said honestly, "a-and I think I'm adjusting slowly. E-Everyone has been kind."

"That's good," Chad nodded again, this time with a grunt. "If anyone one hasn't been, there might have to be trouble."

"I have h-had several p-people tell me that," she said, smiling. "It's v-very kind of them all. Y-you as well."

"Good people here, though," Chad agreed. For the most part. "So I'd be surprised if there was problems."

She bobbed her head a little. "T-There haven't b-been so f-far," Hinata assured him.

"Good; you just come in to say hi, or can I help you find anything, Hinata-san?"

"A bit of b-both," she admitted. "I w-was wondering w-what you had that w-would be good f-for courtly dancing?"

As she was a TA, Hinata had supposed that she ought to make sure she knew the music, if not the steps well enough.

"Oh, yeah, for that class we're in, right?" Chad asked. "That's easy, I think. Classical stuff, maybe even going toward some rare recordings enacting Renaissance and Medieval stuff, because that's the point in Earth history where they did the court dancing thing a lot, I think. Music's more my area than history, though, so I"m not real sure."

That got a soft laugh. "I-I'm sure you're better at h-history than I am."

"Well," Chad pointed out, "you get an excuse; you're not from this world."

"T-True," she admitted, "but the p-point still stands."

"Good point," Chad nodded. "So. Courtly dance music stuff. There's a lot of collections of waltzes that might be useful, too. How you liking the class so far?"

"Waltzes," she repeated, considering it. That and classical. That was doable. "I l-like it," Hinata said, "Aly-san i-is a good teacher. A-And I have a-always enjoyed dancing. W-What do you think of it?"

Chad shrugged his broad shoulders. "I like the music?" he offered; his head ducked a little as he admitted that he wasn't much of a dancer, himself. "But it's really something I have to learn."

Hinata tilted her head at him. "You h-have to learn i-it?"

"Well..." Chad hesitated as he thought about a correction, "I don't have to, but I should. My boyfriend's going to be an emperor, so I should learn how to be all courtly and shit."

Which probably didn't include the usage of the phrase 'and shit.'

Hinata just blinked at him for a few long moments. "B-Boyfriend?"

It certainly was a while since that information inspired a response like that. Chad's head ducked a little, hiding a blush that didn't make it past his dark skin, anyway, as he rubbed his neck. "Uhhh, yeah," he said. "We've been together over a year. His name's Teddy, and he goes to school here, but he had to go home for the summer."

It was more that she'd never really thought about it before and now that it had been mentioned Hinata was quite sure that her Father would Not Approve.

She blushed, feeling like she'd mis-stepped horribly, and stared at the ground.

Chad was quiet for a moment, going over what he had said in his head and trying to figure out what had made Hinata clam up and turn all embarrassed like that. "He's real nice," he assured her after a moment, assuming that she might have been concerned about that; his mad royals class was making him realize that not everyone had a good association with emperors. "I think you'd like him if you got a chance to meet him..."

Her blush deepened. "I-I'm s-sure I w-would," she agreed, feeling awful about messing up so badly.

Chad's head tilted a little as his deductions about Hinata's response honed a little sharper. "Have you," he asked, "ever really had a significant other, Hinata?" She was fairly young, but he had had a few girlfriends at her assumed age, and that might explain her shyness talking about it if she hadn't.

She pressed her fingers together nervously, not understanding the way his thoughts had gone, but glad, at least, that he did not seem to be upset with her.

"A-ano, there i-is a b-boy I like," more of the glancing down thing, "b-but he d-doesn't know."

"A boy here?" Chad asked, because, so help him, that was just way, way too adorable. "Or back home?"

"B-back home," she said, looking downcast, "a-and he l-left last y-year for t-training and h-hasn't come b-back yet."

Chad frowned; the last thing he needed to think about was someone leaving and not returning. "You think he's okay?" he asked, a bit tentatively.

"H-He writes to S-Sakura-san sometimes, a-and seems to be e-enjoying himself," she said reassuringly, "b-but it's not the s-same as him b-being around."

"Yeah, I know how that is," Chad admitted, a slightly sad tone in his rumbling voice.

"A-At least y-your--Teddy-san?--will b-be back," she said reassuringly.

Chad couldn't help grinning a little at the Teddy-san. It took him back a little...way back...to when Ranma had still been around. "Yeah," he said. "He should be. He promised, so..."

"S-So he will b-be," Hinata smiled. "A p-promise isn't s-supposed to be b-broken ever."

"And Teddy definitely never would," Chad said, reassuring himself just as much as he was informing Hinata. "So there is that."

"T-there is that," she agreed with a bob of her head. "A-ano, I s-suppose I s-shouldn't take up your w-whole day," Hinata said, blushing a bit. "C-could you point me to t-the classical music, C-Chad-san?"

"Ah, you'd never take up too much of my time, Hinata-san," Chad told her lightly. "But I wouldn't want to keep you, either. You'll find the classical over there," he pointed, "on the left."

Hinata shot him a smile. "I-I'll remember that," she said, "I w-will be right b-back, Chad-san."

And she headed towards the classical section he'd pointed out for her.

Prince Oscar Pedro finds himself quite the hunter of shoelaces.

A bit of SP in the afternoon, but I should be mostly around later.
