Luke's Diner; Thursday [ 06/05 ]

Cal figured it would be another slow day like all his other Thursdays have been, so, when he wasn't cleaning up for in the kitchen, he was going through his scenes in the play again, trying to keep everything Tennant had said in mind.

And then he remembered that he didn't really care, set it aside, and did something else for a bit. He eventually returned, though. Only so many time you can straighten a napkin holder, after all.

He, more than likely, won't mind the interruption.

Jaina had said she'd be here today, and lo, she came in after class. "I made it," she greeted him.

"You know," Cal commented, "I think this makes twice in a row where we've crossed paths while not at the gym. I fear for what might happen upon the third occasion."

"World ends, probably," she said easily. "Just remember, you invited this one."

"What can I say?" Cal asked, shrugging slightly. "I live on the edge, man. So, you," he said it with a certain assertiveness, "need a hot dog, right?"

"Apparently so," Jaina nodded. "Since I did come all this way, I figure I should try it."

"Oh, yes," Cal nodded gravely. "Such a long sojourn. Let's hope the over processed meat byproducts don't disappoint. Although I think we might have some kosher ones in this place, too."

"And kosher is...?" she asked. "Pretend I'm new."

"But you are new," Cal explained with a light grin. "To hot dogs. Kosher means it fits into all the dietary laws of the Jewish religion, which, I mean, probably isn't a concern, but, usually, it means that there's less questionable material in the already questionable hot dog. You know, fewer cow intestines and pig snouts."

Jaina made a face. "Why go kosher when you make it sound so tasty?"

"I know!" Cal agreed with a laugh. "See, that's perfect; you're a natural hot dog fan with an attitude like that. So, the guys in the back still haven't gotten the art of the Hercules hot dog down, so I'll go get that for you. Want anything to drink in the meantime?"

"Just a Coke," she said. "I'm boring in my drink choices."

At least, more boring that she had been the other night, which was a good thing.

"Fries with that today?" Cal asked, unable to keep from assuming the proper service industry voice as he got Jaina's drink.

"Why not? Might as well go for the whole thing," she decided. Besides, if the hot dog was horrible, then she had something she knew she could eat. "So how's the week been, since I haven't caught you at the gym yet?"

"Oddly busy," Cal commented, with a confused little tilt of his head. "I made it in there Monday, and, Tuesday, I got caught up in rehearsal because we were actually doing my scenes. And then Wednesday, my workshop wore me out, so I was just 'screw it,' and that brings us today, where making hot dogs is far more important."

"Okay, I'm not sure which question to ask first, the one about rehearsal, or the one about what class was Wednesday," she said.

Cal grinned. "Nice way of asking both, then," he complimented as he made the careful incisions to a hot dog to make it plump like a Hercules should. Incisions that always reminded him why it was Chapter Eleven who thought of this and not him. "For rehearsal? My character dies in, like, the third act, and they were working on the end of the play up until this week. So I actually had to do stuff, you know? And Tennant doesn't really mess around with his plays, the guy's kind of a psychopath about it. And then, Wednesday was Galactic Vacationing. There was hunting for panties in cutlery draws, finding Worf a nice hat, and then werewolves."

Pause.

"I trust you can see why I felt like taking the workouts easy this week."

"Yeah, that would keep a person busy," she nodded slowly. "And just because I have to check, not real werewolves, right?"

Cal shook his head. "Danger Shop werewolves. In lovely Victorian Scotland, even. Their weakness is doors."

"Huh. I'll have to remember that if I ever run into any Scottish Victorian werewolves," she said. Here, it always seemed like a possibility.

"Glad to help," Cal nodded as he flipped the carefully cut hot dogs onto the grill. "What have you been up to? Enjoying the gym space without me?"

"I haven't been in there much myself this week," Jaina admitted. "I seemed to be trying to overdo it this weekend, so I've been taking it easier. By which I mean I've been sticking to the salle and flight shed, mainly."

Try as he might, Cal failed to think of something clever to post today. He vowed to make it up next week.
