Caritas - Monday evening [Open]

Jolee was starting to think that he had made a huge mistake letting the mummies onto the stage last week.

On the other hand, seeing the zombies shoot rubber bands at the mummies when they weren't looking was terribly entertaining, even if he didn't know where the undead got their rubber bands from. The internet, probably.

Last weekend I was in a big store in Wall, SD, where they had the snazziest wood revolver-looking rubber band guns I've ever seen. I wanted to buy a cowboy outfit and those rubber band guns and just stroll around town. It would've been awesome.

Worf glared at the Zombies and Mummies as he came in just to make sure they didn't shoot any rubber bands his way.

"Give me a drink befitting a warrior," Worf demanded.

And then as an afterthought:
"Please."

"Tino?" Jolee asked. Tino suggested two drinks. "Which would you prefer, whiskey or an appletini, whatever that is?"

Worf frowned. He'd had Whiskey before so, "Appletini."

"You heard him, Tino," Jolee said. Tino - feeling very proud of himself - prepared the appletini and brought it over. Jolee shot a look at Tino when he got a good look at it. Tino shrugged.

"There you go, sir. I hope it's to your liking."

Cal's entire day had just felt off, and, out of things that people did when days were off, he decided it was probably time to check out that bar in town. Barely ducking the path of a rogue rubber band just a few steps through the door, he found his way to a seat, took it, and then realized that he had no idea what he'd want to drink anyway.

Cal would have given Worf a more customary greeting when he spotted him, especially since he figured that going to the bar was a good fitting-in sort of thing for him to do, but then Cal noticed the appletini.

"Jesus fuck, Worf; what are you drinking?"

Worf also shot a look at Tino. But he did try it.

At one sip he made a face. "Bah! This is insipid and weak. What do you have that's better?"

"Good job ducking," Jolee noted. "What can I get for you?"

Worf glared at the drink as if it had personally insulted him.

"It's called and appletini. And I do not like it," he growled. "Infants are fed stronger drinks than this."

Probably not but it sounded good.

"Thanks," Cal nodded before tentatively asking, "Uh, how pissed would you be if I said I just wanted water?"

Tino now had two people glaring at him. He handed over a bottle of bourbon.

It would have been impossible to not grin at that. Cal wasn't sure what he'd think about it if it turned out that Worf was actually fond of...whatever the hell that was. And, better yet...

"You guys give infants booze where you're from?"

What were they? Irish?

"I'm old. I don't have time to get angry at people for drinking water unless it's from my glass and you spit in it afterwards," Jolee said as he filled a glass. "Which doesn't mean that I won't get angry about somebody just getting water. I just want you to know what I'd be angrier about is you making me waste my time being angry in the first place. Here you go."

Cal blinked a little at that, and then shook his head as if to clear it out once he realized that he didn't follow it in the slightest. "And you do realize," he asked, picking up his glass of water, "that it probably took you longer to explain that than it would have taken you to get angry, right?"

"Hey, Jolee," Amber said as she sat down at the bar, looking a little tired.

"But think of all the time I've saved up for getting angry at you in the future," Jolee said. "Young people don't look at the big picture..."

"How are you tonight?" Jolee asked. "And what can I get you?"

"Not necessarily," Cal scratched at the back of his head. "I mean, I'm probably not going to ever order anything besides water, anyway; I just wanted to know what I'd be in for when I do."

"Kind of tired but a bit restless at the same time. Ma gave me a headache earlier when I talked to her, tryin' to explain where I was now. So I came here to just get away... from my phone." Which probably made no sense whatsoever but... whatever. "I'll take a Shirley Temple with an extra cherry, please."

"And now you know that it'll depend on the day," Jolee said.

"See? Saved myself the trouble of finding that out day-by-day, the long way. The bigger picture."

Cal nodded.
