Turtle & Canary, Wed., 6/18

When Amber got to work, she decided that productivity would be the best thing for her today, despite how busy she was yesterday. Who wanted to just stand around and think? Of course, she was going to purchase another trashy romance novel, but she would do that just before she went home, so the book wasn't to be seen laying around.

Sweeping and stocking shelves only had her mind wandering to yesterday and more directly upon Mr. Tennant. Amber was beginning to suspect that he might be slightly off his rocker. The razor blade was good evidence, also were the quirky little things he said sometimes. He didn't have a bed and food was wonderful? Yes, she took into consideration his rather pointed sarcastic sense, so it was entirely hard to tell. Still, Amber had the bad habit of feeling like everything anyone said was always an underlined pointy nuisance reflecting off of her and what she said. Damn her thoughtful self today.

Taking herself to the soap aisle, she made sure the blocks and various kinds were straight and even and that the animal soaps were staring back at you with their cute little faces.

After a morning run, a shower, and some lunch all handwavily, la and before his workshop for the day, Cal made the sojourn over to the store to get his weekly required purchase of an animal soap, a pack of cigarettes, and a Faygo. And maybe talk to the clerk a little in ways that didn't end awkwardly, but he wasn't quite sure how that would work.

...He didn't realize it last week, but all those little animal soaps were kind of creepy, looking with their blank antibacterial eyes out at the world. He located a little orange monkey for today before heading over to counter. His purchases went on the counter as he pulled his wallet from his back pocket with a nice, simple greeting of, "Hey."

"Better," Cal answered honestly with a small smile. "Got a good run in this morning, and now I have an orange monkey to go in my collection. How've you been?"

Cal shrugged a little. "I don't know; I've just been feeling really off so far this week." He feigned ignorance, despite knowing which exact cluster of events lead to that. "Not so much today, so that's good..."

There might have been a slightly confused shift to Cal's brows as he looked at Amber for a moment, wondering if she was joking around, asking a question like that. A question like that, as if she hadn't been there last week with the book or yesterday when Tennant chewed him out although that's just now happening, la; although, for her credit, she probably didn't know about the Ino thing, and, hell, while he was at it, might as well throw in the Jaina thing, although he was trying to ignore that one, since it was pretty much just him being a fucking idiot.

Lightly, Cal shook his head. "Just a really bad week, that's all." And quickly went for a subject change. "Hey, you know how you said something about checking out the new location sometime? You have any more thoughts on that?"

"Yeah, a bit," Cal said, which wasn't necessarily true. A lot of thought had been put into the matter, distracting thoughts that colored a little bit of everything last weekend. He always found that too many thoughts always brought him down a little, so all the debating in his head about what he should determine appropriate in this case definitely influenced his mood. But, really, he had no idea. For all it's quirks, Fandom had, for the most part, propelled him into the first 'normal' setting he'd been in since the discovery.

"I'd like to, but I realized it might be kind of hard with our schedules. Play's Tuesday, you work Wednesdays, I've got Thursdays. But maybe a Monday, or something? Or a weekend..."

Cal gave a slight smile, ruffling his hand through the shaggy hair at the back of his neck. He should get it cut soon... "It's okay," he said quietly. "And, yeah, I guess...we can just play it by ear, yeah?"

He bit his lip slightly. "Were you thinking of going to that exhibit opening? I thought I remembered seeing you at the last one." Talking about one with the lady, and the lion...

Cal nodded a little. "Yeah. I was thinking about it. I did like that last one a lot."

"So, um, I guess I'll probably see you there, then," Cal muttered, light smile still in place, and he finally dropped some bills on the counter, slightly wadded, enough to cover the total and some change, which he stated that Amber could keep as he reached for his bag.

"See ya..."

Cal took up the bag, cradling it in an arm against his chest lightly. But he didn't move to leave yet. His head was still down a little, brow furrowed a bit thoughtfully. He felt like he should say something else, but what?

"Hm?" Cal, blinking, lifted his head out of his reverie. "...oh. Uh, no, that's it. Sorry." He shook his head, lifted his hand in a wave, and headed out. "Thanks."

Awkward, as anticipated. Not too bad, though. Amber probably thought he was a complete weirdo for that last bit, but she probably already thought that about him anyway, and rightfully so...
