Ching Tai, Sunday night

Harriet settled herself comfortably at the table, with a smile of thanks for their server as he replaced a chair with a solid stool.

"I thought you might prefer somewhere near the back," she told her dinner guest. Not to mention a spot she could see the rest of the restaurant and the door. "Are you hungry?"

[ooc: Up waaaaay early for timezonishness and, apart from Harriet's not-a-date thread, open for your Chinese food needs.]

The stool had been a good idea. She'd have to take the back of her chair out next, maybe-- the wings were unwieldy, even when retracted. Kerrigan sat, perfectly still, her back straight, and stared at the menu. "I'm hungry," she said, "I'm just not sure how much of these dishes are just made up."

"Spicy sounds good," she said, blinking in an attempt to drive Harriet's concern towards the back of her mind. She didn't really need to go a big rubbery one right now. "Mostly it's the metabolism that changed. Alcohol and caffeine are out the window, but I'll still chug down a pizza."

"Spend enough time around marines, you'll learn more about food consumption than you'd ever want." Kerrigan lifted an amused eyebrow, and her hand went for the bottle of water first, pulling up her glass. "Don't ask."

She shoved the bottle back towards the middle of the table once she'd managed to fill up her glass. "That thing looks like sea foam baked in pink."

"I was never really stationed at any culinary capitals," Kerrigan said, reaching for the bowl next. You had to know what you were talking about, after all. "I wasn't joking when I said half of this looks made-up to me."

"I'm pretty sure you're not going to poison me, one way or another," she said, grateful just to be able to drop the menu back onto the table without picking anything.

"If there's anything I've learned..." she said. She reached over to steal one of the chips-- they had looked a little interesting, "There's no underestimating the sheer hard-headed stubbornness of man."

She munched on it and judged it edible. "'Man' is kind of a general word," Kerrigan pointed out, "And these'll do, provided they don't poison me."

"So give me the bigger word and I'll use that," she said, with a little shrug that didn't move her wing too much. "The point stands. Just look at the students."

"It'd save a lot of them from putting their asses in line to get killed." Kerrigan took a gulp of water to wash down the chips, watching Harriet carefully. "I've considered taping some of them to the dorms on a more permanent basis during invasions."

[identity profile] on-her-korhal.livejournal.com 2008-07-21 10:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Fasten them to the ceiling," she repeated, with a thoughtful look. "We'd have to get different shades of webbing to make them blend into the scenery, if the improbable happens and the dorms get breached..."

She didn't seem too happy about that idea. To put it mildly.

"That's not a bad plan," Kerrigan mused, sipping her water again while she contemplated braving the chips once more. "The island seems to have a lot of tech slotted in already. We've got teleporters. Should be able to make that work somehow."

She might've been thinking of Lee, most of all. The dumbass.

Throughout the display, Kerrigan was watching, her eyes set firmly on the waiter until his retreating back was well out of sight. Then she glanced back at Harriet, tilting her head. "You'll warn me if any of this will jump up and eat me, right?"
