Turtle & Canary, Wed., 7/23

Oranges everwhere. Not just in her room, but everywhere. Amber kind of giggled when she saw Apu slicing up some and squeezing them to make orange juice.

"Hey, Apu," she said. "Why did the orange stop rollin' down the hill?"

He cocked his head, orange poised in the air. Yeah, he didn't know.

"It ran out of juice," she giggled.

"Hey, Amber," Apu said. "Why did the blonde stare at a can of frozen orange juice for two hours?"

"Uhh..."

"Because it said concentrate."

Okay, Amber had to laugh at that one. But she didn't let it slide, she picked up an orange and threw it at him.

Thus ensued a sticky, juicy, orange mess.

Ooops?

Today's Squishy flavors: Orange Sherbert, Grape Judas, Peanut Butter

Turtle & Canary is open!

Turtle breezed into the store quickly sometime that mid-day, brushing quickly by with a string of, "Hi Amber, hi Apu, hi Bob, hi Liz" on her way toward getting exactly what she wanted, an orange juicer. She put the money on the counter and headed back out with a, "Keep the change. Bye Liz, bye Bob, bye Apu, bye Amber!" and was gone again.

Later that afternoon, after a visit to Wellspring, Cal came into the store with a familiar looking bound stack of papers (http://not-a-mused.livejournal.com/4126.html) under his arm.

"It smells very fruity in here," he observed, by way of greeting.

"Maaaaybe," Cal drawled, with a slight shrug. "Or maybe I just ran out of toilet paper. Wanna bet on it?"

"No," Cal snorted, rolling his eyes a little. "What happened to your gambling spirit? But, yeah, it's the next part of the story. If you want it."

"Yeah, I guess it's pretty smart to not put yourself into even more debt," Cal said as he handed over the slightly smaller than usual stack. "I'm going to warn you," he said, a bit of his smile fading away. "It's kind of a rough one. And it might get confusing at the end. It's intentionally vague."

"I don't want you skipping work or anything for it," Cal said, with a little frown back, although it was slightly playful. "It's not going anywhere."

"You're kinda feisty today," Cal noted, eying Amber a little with a look of mock offense. "What do you need me walking you back to the dorms for? You been drinking on the job?"

Cal blinked a little at that, somehow failing to keep up with it all, quickly grabbed a Faygo from a cooler, tossed some change onto the counter, gave the Indian guy a wave, and then bounded after Amber. With his long legs and the fact that she was probably expecting him, it probably wasn't too difficult to catch up.

"Hey, wait a sec. I was just joking, you know."

"I don't," he assured her. "I was heading back after I dropped off the next part, anyway. I mean, are you sure that's okay? Just leaving work like that? You were out of there like a hurricane."

"Well, if you're sure," Cal said, choosing those specific words because he could sense the doubt on her face. He twisted open the cap of his pop (he'd grabbed one of the red ones) and held it over, offering Amber the first sip if she wanted it.

Orange you glad that that's all she made, though?
