The Park, Saturday Evening

The ceremony had been beautiful. And the evening was only getting started. The guests were ushered into the large tent that had been erected (hee) in the park earlier in the day. The caterers had delivered and set up food and enough free alcohol to drink the entire town into a coma.

Of course, there was a special area reserved for the squirrels with dessert nuts and high-quality rum to keep Vala and Barney's smallest guests happy while they took their notes and danced the night away.

Pleased workers did a last check of the tables and cigar centerpieces before the guests and the wedding party arrived. The wedding reception was set to go exactly as planned.

[The reception, like the wedding, is open to everyone in Fandom. Once I put up some OCD Now.]

"Ah! See!" Daisy bounced a little on her toes as she pointed a finger at the man. "There's the hole in your theory; he gets top choice 'cause she fled, so she couldn't have done it mostly for the gift. Note, though, that I say mostly. Her leaving so quick off the bat'll hurt her chances in most courts, too, so, unless she's one hell of a fighter, she can't be expecting too much money. Way too easy to work a fraud case on that one; I should know."

"You've raced away from a wedding, too?" he teased.

"Never been lucky enough for the chance!" Daisy laughed, with a little snap of her fingers. "But I've seen a few attempts on the legal side of that fence. Daisy Day." She proffered her hand. "I used to work for the London PD Fraud unit."

"Biff," Biff replied, shaking her hand, "from Jerusalem. Nice to meet you, Daisy."

"Nice to meet you, too, Biff. That a traditional name, there?" she teased, although, if it was, she'd chalk that under learn something new every day.

"Levi, actually," Biff replied. "Biff is Aramaic for a smack upside the head, something my mother thought I needed daily."

"Awww," Daisy couldn't help laughing a little. "And what were your thoughts on the matter?"

Re: Cake and Drinks

Biff grinned. "I retaliated by telling people she was possessed by demons."

Had to love a strong family free of dysfunction. Daisy, grinning, shook her head a little. "How'd she take that? Another slap to the back of the head?"

"Of course," Biff said. "It's amazing I'm as normal as I am, really."

He spun his glass between his fingers. "So what brings you to Fandom?"

Daisy was figuring it could have been worse. Were she a more violent person, the type to hit her son upside the head on frequent occasion, she would have up the ante at the point from the palm of her hand to maybe a nice heavy anthology of literature or something.

"Job transfer," she said with a nod. "Just flew in not too long ago. Not bad so far, but it's clear my work will be taking a different focus."

She waved her hand, though. "It's Saturday, during a event of celebration. Last thing I want to talk about is my job. What about you?"

"Finished a book and got sent here a year ago to teach religion," Biff said. "Now I work at the meditation center in town."

"Not too bad of a resume!" Daisy remarked. "How do you like it?"

"It beats getting hit in the head," Biff said with an easy smile. "Cable's an interesting man to work for."

"Don't think I've met him," Daisy said, with a sip of her drink, unaware that she had, in fact, met him only yesterday, just under a different name.

"You'll see him sooner or later. He hangs out a lot with a guy who wears red jammies."

Re: Cake and Drinks

[identity profile] nojesusfreak.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
"As far as I can remember, yes." Biff shrugged. "This town is strange."

Re: Cake and Drinks

[identity profile] justice-beat.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
"There is a lot to be said for the comfort of a good pair of jammies, though," Daisy pointed out with a grin. "And, from what I've been reading up on, comfortable loungewear is hardly the strangest thing I've come across."

Re: Cake and Drinks

[identity profile] nojesusfreak.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Biff grinned. "I'll wear my footie pajamas to work tomorrow, then. What's the strangest thing you've come across?"

Re: Cake and Drinks

[identity profile] justice-beat.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Meditation center, right?" Daisy grinned back. "I will stop in to see, you know. And I can't quite decide. It's either one of the many strange invasions this place has encountered from very odd things, or the fact that my new colleagues at the station seem to actually not mind talking to me."

Re: Cake and Drinks

[identity profile] nojesusfreak.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Why would they mind talking to you?" Biff asked.

[Night! SP ftw?]

"Oh, well, you know," Daisy waved a hand. "Cops."

She then lifted her empty cup, wrangling some attention from the bartender to fill her up another one.

Re: Cake and Drinks

[identity profile] nojesusfreak.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Cops don't enjoy talking with beautiful, intelligent women?" Biff blinked. "Their loss."

Re: Cake and Drinks

[identity profile] justice-beat.livejournal.com 2008-11-02 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Cops don't like," Daisy allowed herself to say it with a wry grin as she received her next drink, "beautiful, intelligent women making them look bad."

And she could certainly drink to that, even if she felt she'd already said more than she should on the matter. But she was a whole country away and at a party, and she'd just try to get the conversation off work politics in just a bit.
