The Boards - PREVIEWS - Tuesday - 12/09

It was previews tonight, so while there was a bit of nervousness, there wasn't the electricity of opening night. There was just the theatre with the chairs set up and the set made to resemble the very town they were in and oh my god they were up to previews.

Geoffrey was like a live wire, a wolf on the hunt, the scent of opening night in his noise and out in his hair and down his spine and he loved it, absolutely loved it.

"We're getting started, folks..."

Not even anyone else's anticipation could make Cal feel nervous, especially not over just previews. He got ready, cracked his knuckles, and was ready to go.

Amber was about as ready as she was going to get, and tonight she was hyped up actually, in an extremely good mood.

Jack bounced on the balls of his feet for a few bounces, then bounced higher with a "Yeah!" in the enthusiastic "Let's do this!" vein.

Robin was a bit nervous, but wasn't showing it. He was saving all that for opening night.

After last week's dress rehearsal, Hoshi was feeling a lot more confident and it showed. She managed to hit her mark, find her light and brought a little extra zing to Fabrizia's moments on stage.

Amber's mood played a very difinitive role in her actual portrayal of the leading lady, Bastiana, this evening. She was smart, intelligent in her sarcastic wit, selling the comedic side of it to the audience when the lines called for her to do so.

She smiled, worked the stage; willed up and performed the more melodramtic angsty moments with flair and certain amounts of emotional stress that befitted the otherwise charming character.

And by the end, her love for Baldovino was deep and seemingly awestruck, and Amber hoped she won the aduience over with her confident performance, played throughout with her fellow actors and actresses.

Of course, it was only practice but she acted as though it was opening night. Or so she thought.

Despite the mun's conspicuous absence, Fiyero has been at performances. No, really!

He's been paying attention, hopefully, because being the roommate of the director and flopping horribly would be embarrassing. At the very least he knows his lines and he's vastly improved since the start of the play as far as emotional portrayal goes.

It had worked for him so far, so Cal just kept up with what he had been doing: having fun with the role, especially since he was in a good mood to swing it easily.

It was kind of nice, too, how his meddling, busy role kept him distracted from everything going on outside the stage.

Jack was enthusiactic, he was chewing up the scenery (because, let's face it, he wasn't there for his acting ability so much as his mullet could act circles around the boy) when he wasn't stating lines, and if the lines he spoke weren't spot-on, they were full of gist and close-enoughs and Shakespeare totally wrote a few "awesome"s and "stuff"s in the script; however, he would not be able to answer how "pickles" got in there.

Aside from stepping on one fork (Ow!), his performance went off without a hitch.

Peyton couldn't quite resist poking her head in to see how the backdrop looked up with everything else.

"Wow, it all looks pretty cool together like that," Peyton said with a smile. "How's it all going?"
