Wearing a dark black coat with a satiny scarlet scarf around her neck, Mina Harker stepped into the Mauvaise Chance lobby with two large trunks. She abandoned them where she deemed them safe, and approached Rusty. She could have easily carried the trunks with her, but that would arouse suspicion.

"Excuse me, sir, if I may interrupt," Mina said. She tilted her head, politely.

Rusty looked up from his paperwork and smiled. "How can I help you?"

"I will require an apartment," Mina said. "I do hope you have one vacant." She had a slight smile on her face.

"I have two vacancies at the moment," Rusty said. "Both on the fourth floor. A large one-bedroom and a small one-bedroom."

He quoted her the rent for each.

Mina blinked a few times, the inflation since her time becoming quite apparent from the quote rent rates.

"The larger shall fit my needs better," Mina said. "The financial arrangements can be made easily."

"Fantastic," Rusty said with an easy smile. "It's Number 7, on the 4th floor."

He handed her a rental agreement and the keys. "Do you need help carrying your things?"

"Please, thank you," Mina said. She was surprised at the ease of securing lodging. It gave her a moment of pause. After all, it did mean they let just about anyone in. "You have not even asked my name," she remarked.

Rusty shrugged. "You'll put it on the paperwork. I'm Rusty Ryan, owner and landlord of this fine establishment."

He offered her a hand.

Mina pulled off her glove and offered her own. Tilted to the side, of course. "Wilhelmina Harker," she introduced.

Rusty was suave enough to realize that she was likely from a different time or place and he lifted her hand to his lips.

"Pleasure to meet you, Miss Harker."

"Misses," Mina corrected. She pulled back her hand and replaced her glove. "If you would lead the way?"

"Be happy to," Rusty said, going to grab one of her trunks from the hall.

"Thank you, sir," Mina said. "The environment is quiet, here?"

"Mostly," Rusty said. "Though the island itself can be a little... odd sometimes."

"Odd in a... peculiar street festivals manner, or something worse?" Mina asked.

"Odd as in the band at the karaoke bar is zombies," Rusty said.

Mina raised an eyebrow. "That is quite unexpected," she said, hiding any deeper reaction.

Rusty smirked. "Rule number one? Expect the unexpected."

"That is, by definition, impossible," Mina pointed out. "But your sentiment is understood."

"Don't be surprised by anything you see or hear in this town," Rusty said.

"I shall strive to keep a level head," Mina said. "Through whatever I may encounter."

"Here we are," Rusty said, stopping in front of apartment #7. "I'll leave this in the hall and go down for your other trunk."

"Thank you," Mina said. "I hope it is no trouble."

"None at all. Let me know if I can do anything else to help you," Rusty said. "Oh, and I'm having a party tomorrow for all the residents of the building to celebrate the holidays."

"I suppose that shall give me a chance to become acquainted with my neighbors," Mina said. "That shall do nicely."
