Chilly Boulder, Late Saturday Afternoon/Early Evening

Dōjima had promised Cal ice cream for his birthday, and she had meant it.

Admittedly, he probably wasn't expecting the store to be filled with balloons, streamers, and people, but Dōjima tended to be a bit of a dork about things like this, especially when it came to her friends.

Besides, he had said it was okay if she brought a small army, so inviting the entire student body was perfectly acceptable, right? Right.

"Oh, and you've come for Cal," she said, sympathizing with her as much as she could for not understanding what it is she does. "He will appreciate your being here, Ino."

"No way would I miss it," Ino said, grinning. "It's Cal, I had to come, you know? And I've got work after this still so I'm totally going to try and get a sugar rush to last me through that."

"I will admit, I don't know him so very well, other than he is seeing my roommate, Claire," she said, and then grinned. "Sugar rushes are amazing. I get them most often because I am addicted to Ho Ho's."

Ino blinked.

"What's a Ho Ho?"

"A chocolate cake with cream in the center. Ah, you've never heard of them?"

She shook her head. "Don't think they've got them in my world," Ino said.

"My mother keeps me well in stock, even though you can buy them here. I have plenty if you'd ever like to come by my room. I will share them with you."

"I'll stop by sometime then," she said, smiling. "Just to see what they're all about."

"They're wonderful," she said, definitely biased. "Ned loves them too."

"Ned liking them means I'll probably like them loads," she confessed. "Ned knows what he's talking 'bout when it comes to awesome tasting things. Mmmm."

"He does, doesn't he?" She smiled. "His pies are wonderful."

"And him cooking saves me from having to do it!" she laughed. "I don't much like cooking."

"I don't know how to cook," she admitted. "I eat Ho Ho's a lot for dinner. And chips."

"Doesn't that get a bit monotonous sometimes?" Ino asked curiously. "And I can cook, but I don't like it."

"It most certainly does," she said. "But it's quick and easy. Not entirely healthy, but easy."

"Try cereal bars or something too?" Ino suggested. "Some of them taste pretty good too, if you're looking for something that's easy but doesn't involve cooking."

"I can do that, yes," she smiled. "I'm a junkfood nut, as my mother says."

"You guys have so much of it 'round here!" she said, beaming. "It's awesome, but I have to be careful not to eat too much of it."

"Does it make you sick?" she asked.

She wrinkled her nose. "Not really, but it's too easy to get addicted to it and that won't work at all back home--you've got to be healthy to be a ninja, you know?"

Penelope looked down at herself. She was tiny, always had been, but the junk she ate, really couldn't be good for her. "I think I will stock up on some fruit."

That got a bit of a grin. "You don't have to cook it either, you know."

"Exactly!" she giggled.
