Dōjima had promised Cal ice cream for his birthday, and she had meant it.

Admittedly, he probably wasn't expecting the store to be filled with balloons, streamers, and people, but Dōjima tended to be a bit of a dork about things like this, especially when it came to her friends.

Besides, he had said it was okay if she brought a small army, so inviting the entire student body was perfectly acceptable, right? Right.

"Soooo," Cal said, and smirked, "did you get me a Shamwow or not?"

That got him a smack on the arm. "Don't be a brat, Sparkles."

"Ow," Cal said, wincing at the smack and rubbing his arm a little. "It's my birthday; I get to be a brat."

"Shouldn't you be acting more mature because of that?" Temari shot back with a small grin.

"Plenty of time for maturity after the birthday," Cal informed her, lifting his chin.

"Oh, by the way," he added, "I was thinking of taking up Olympic diving. But I hate drying off with a regular towel; it takes forever. You wouldn't happen to know of some product that might help me with this conundrum, would you?"

No, he was never ever letting it go. She could punch him out cold and the first thing he'd say when he came too was going to be Shamwow!

"A towel, asshole."

She so hated him right now.

"Really?" Cal asked. "You can't think of...anything, anything at all...that might actually be superior than your average towel?"

"Do you want a matching bruise on your other arm?"

"Oh, come on," Cal argued lightly with a chuckle. "Don't be such a wet blanket."

Pause.

"Get a Shamwow instead."

Dying for the sake of his sarcasm and wit was a worthy death!

And that got him another smack. "You'll be black and blue by the end of the evening, won't you?"

"It'll be worth it," Cal said. "So very, very worth it."

"Happy birthday, Sparkles." She gave that one to him, hit-free even.

Cal smiled a little. "Thanks, Fanbutt. Glad you could make it."

"How old are you now, anyway?"

"Seventeen," Cal informed her, "if we go with how many years I've lived. Forty-nine if you go by my birth certificate."

Of course, if you went by his birth certificate, he was also female, which just went to show which option he gave more credit to.

Temari gave him a once over. "You don't look bad for an old man."

"You know, I keep in shape. I eat an excellent diet of junk food, Greek cuisine, and ice cream, and I moisturize."

"That last one must be it." Oh, she could keep up the dry sarcasm as long as he could.

"Maybe I could give you some pointers," Cal offered. "It's got to get dry in the desert."

That got her to crack. Just a little. "You're such a woman."

"Oh, shut up, Shamwow," Cal said, tossing the new one in there out of pure defensiveness. "I was totally just joking."

What? It was a sensitive spot.

Temari rolled her eyes at him. "Don't be a brat," She said dryly. "You know how I mean it."
