Chilly Boulder, Late Saturday Afternoon/Early Evening

Dōjima had promised Cal ice cream for his birthday, and she had meant it.

Admittedly, he probably wasn't expecting the store to be filled with balloons, streamers, and people, but Dōjima tended to be a bit of a dork about things like this, especially when it came to her friends.

Besides, he had said it was okay if she brought a small army, so inviting the entire student body was perfectly acceptable, right? Right.

"I'm only glad it snowed," he admitted with a smile and a shake of his head. "Generally, the weather doesn't get too cold with the snow. Without it..."

He mock-shuddered.

"What've you been up to? Oh, and how goes things with the play?"

Beat.

"I... think I've been hired as catering?"

"The play's good. Dinah's totally thrilled to be playing Harry. And that's awesome. I'm always in favor of more good food around."

"You'd have to check," he said hastily, "Mister Tennant's a little... odd when you give him food."

He glanced then over at Dinah and smiled.

"Yes, she's told me. I'm very happy for her. I'll have to pick up a copy of the play at work next week to know what's going on. Do you know it?"

"I watched the movie a couple of weeks ago," Tony said. And he'd read the Spark Notes online. "It's a history play about this British king who invaded France with an army that was outnumbered like, five to one. Only they won, so he's considered a hero instead of an idiot."

"That's usually what happens after you win," he said with a wry smile.

"But only after you win. Interesting enough. But, er, there's no... terrible bloody deaths on stage, are there?"

"I think most of the bloody stuff happens offstage," Tony said.

"The first one was, er, a bit much," he admitted, thinking of his conversation with Karal.

"I heard," Tony said. "This one's not like that, though."

"Good, at least."

He looked around the parlor.

"Have you joined any of the clubs this semester? I almost thought of starting one but I didn't think anyone would join."

Tony shook his head. "Nah, I've been pretty busy with work and stuff. What were you thinking of starting?"

"Gooseball. Er, soccer? I know they had a touch-football team," he said.

"I play when I can, but it's much more fun with others."

"Oh, I bet people would be up for that," Tony said. "I'm not athletic enough for team stuff, but I know other people are."

"I'll have to see about trying next semester then. And keep playing with Dinah in the meantime. She's not bad."

Also, Johnny. See if he was up for play again.
