Luke's Diner, Thursday

The kitchen crew was putting stuff in Priestly's hair again. And snickering about him getting called a "village idiot" on the radio.

Priestly outwardly ignored them while secretly plotting their demise and planning a specials board that would go well with his t-shirt du jour.

Love is in the Angelhair spaghetti with meatballs
Some Enchanted Pizza (with lots of garlic)
Bad Religion-food cake (Devil's food with a cute name)

Luke's was open for business.

"I'm going to cry," Claudia told him. "Did he at least get stomped flat? Please?"

"I don't remember," Priestly lied. "But, yeah, a lot of the movies coming out lately have been remakes."

"That's terrible!" Claudia said. "There are so many interesting things that should be movies. Don't redo old movies badly. Lord."

"Maybe I'll go there after high school," Claudia thought aloud. "Not to write, though. But costuming!"

"You would be awesome at that." Plus, Hollywood was way closer to Santa Cruz than Connecticut was.

Claudia beamed. "Thanks! I've done costuming for plays before, but Harper was doing the one in town and I didn't want to get in the way of her vision."

"Exactly!" Claudia said. "There are already enough egos around with the actors and director and everything."

"Completely. You'll just have to get the next one. Or design the costumes for my roller derby."

Yeah, he hadn't actually made any effort to create a roller derby league. He just kind of liked picturing it. Co-ed crazy roller derby. Yeeeeeeeah.

"Sure," said Priestly, whose junior high days had come along far later than Claudia's. "We'll have to find a good rink, too."

Claudia sometimes felt she had been in junior high for a decade. "Too bad the weird director got rid of the rink he'd built over the weekend," she said regretfully.
