Turtle & Canary - Wednesday, 3/18

Amber was tapping down the aisles of the store today, sweeping and straightening shelves. She decided today was going to be productive and that might be because she needed to keep her mind occupied. She was dreading the phone call to her ma she was going to have to make. But the sooner the better.

So yeah, massive productivity today.

Thank you, come again!

She's behind the counter now, studiously putting price tags on stacks of new socks. But her feet were still tapping.

Hinata had, last week, mentioned she'd come by with the results of her talking to Turtle-san about swimming ~~which was still being played out~~, and slipped in with a soft smile.

"Good morning," she said lightly.

[And SP is totally awesome omg!]

Amber looked up from the socks in her hand to Hinata, and smiled. "Hey! Morning, Hinata!"

She grinned a bit. "You look as if you're doing well t-today," Hinata said, coming up to the counter. "I t-thought I'd stop by."

"I'm doing just fine," she replied. "And I'm glad you did. How're you doing?"

"Very well," she said, grinning. "As I've p-picked up swimming lessons from Turtle-san to add to my l-list of things to do."

Amber laughed. "That is so totally good to hear, Hinata. How nice of her, uh?"

A pool party, would be excellent!

"She's very nice," Hinata said agreeably. "She l-let me pick the time and everything."

Okay, so maybe Hinata found that amusing.

"How agreeable of her," Amber replied, finding it just as amusing. "I hope these lessons will prove completely and enjoyably beneficial."

"I would be a poor s-student if she did not enjoy it as much as I hope to," she said, almost solemnly, before giggling. "And r-really, I could use the help."

Words within words. It was a fun game.

"Well, good for you then," she said, nodding. "I'm glad you took it upon yourself to plan for such a healthy, helpful, swimming time fun! That Turtle... what a willing generous person."

Heeee!

"Because I am her f-friend, she will not even charge me," Hinata shared, because really, the idea of being charged to throw a party would've been too funny. "Now all that remains is a certain bit of shopping and t-then a tutorial about computers," e-mail, "and I will h-have to consider this semester a very educational one."

Yes, indeed!

"Ah, I have a bit of free time on my hands lately. I could help out with the computer stuff if you want?" she asked, barely keeping her giggling in check. "Tomorrow afternoon maybe? My room? Oh, and hey, if you've shopping to do, this is the place and my employee discount could come in handy."

"As you are offering," she said, as if they hadn't planned this before, "I would b-be a poor friend indeed to not take you up on such aid. I will b-be there tomorrow, for certain."

A grin. "Does your free time h-have enough to help me with my s-shopping? A girl should always s-seek a second opinion, you understand."

"Oh, certainly," she replied, feeling entirely sneaky given the squirrels. "I love to shop so whenever you're up for it, I'm available."

They were definitely sneaky!

"We could do s-some now," she mused, "and then, perhaps, if there's a need, finish it on Friday?"

"Sure!" she answered and came from around the counter, her tap shoes clicking. "Let's do this!"

"What s-sort of shoes are those?" she asked curiously. "And we'll n-need green, for colour, in the supplies of course. But perhaps another colour or two as well?"

"Tap shoes," she told her, clicking them purposefully for Hinata. "And green, of course. And hey, purple goes great with green." So it was Amber's favorite color, it seriously when with green, right?

Hinata was partial to blue and yellow herself, but this wasn't a party for her. "A bright p-purple then? Something summery?" she said easily. "They're meant for... d-dancing then, your shoes?"

"Yes, something summery!" she exclaimed walking towards the party supply section. "Any other color you'd like, Hinata?"

She grinned over at her. "Yah, you betcha. Tap dancing. It's something I've been doing since I was a little girl."

Hinata followed, well content to let Amber lead when she knew the store better. "Maybe a g-gold?" she said, a bit dubiously. "As long as it doesn't look g-garish or tacky?"

She grinned back. "I'll have to s-see you dance at least once then. I'm sure you're a joy to watch."

"Gold will be perfect," she said, nodding in reassurance to her tone of voice. "A lighter gold."

Giggling a little in embarrassment, she started picking out different party supplies in the colors they chose and showed Hinata to make sure she was in agreement. "I don't know if I'm a joy or not," she said, blushing, "but it's fun and I enjoy it."

"Gold it is then." Hinata nodded her agreement, taking a few of the lighter green ones, and considering them in contrast to the darker. "L-Lighter, I think," she said, setting the darker ones back.

She grinned a bit. "Seeing someone do s-something they enjoy is always a joy to watch, don't you think?"

Amber was nodding in agreement. Hinata was good at picking and choosing colors.

"It is, yes," she said, looking back at her with a grin. "If you ever want to watch me, I'll dance for you. It's nothing awe inspiring, but it's something."

Her eyes had to be good for something, after all!

"I would love too," she said sincerely, picking out a few more things. "So l-long as it is not an imposition."

"It never is," she told her honestly. "Since I enjoy it, it's easy." She just felt a little shy about it, which was unlike her.

Hinata smiled. "Then I would be d-delighted to, at some point."

She studied what they'd picked out. "This is g-good for a start, do you think? Or should I get a bit m-more now, just in case, so we don't have any l-last minute shopping then?"
