Fight Club, Atlas Gym, Sunday Evening
"Well, most of you are looking refreshingly back to your original shapes," Ghanima said crisply. "I hope many of you enjoyed your second or third childhoods, and many congratulations on not managing to kill each other with the nerf toys last week."
"Being back to normal means no ball pit this week," Tyler added. "I know. I'm crushed, too. Welcome to Fight Club. Rules are posted over there, and if this is your first week sign in and let us know what your level is."
"Like last time, we'll both be around keeping an eye on things, and I'll be over by the beginner mats for the first bit," Ghanima stated. "Now, you and you. You two. And you two too." She turned to Tyler, smiling brightly. "Care to pick the last victims?"
"You know the way to my heart, Ghanima," Tyler joshed, and looked over the group for a long moment. "You, hiding in the back, and you by the padding. And both of you. And that makes five sets. Go forth and punch."

Beginner Mats

Re: Beginner Mats
"Liir," she said pleasantly. "Where would you like to start?"

Re: Beginner Mats
"The first thing to remember is to keep breathing," Ghanima said, reaching out to lay a hand on his chest. "If you start holding it all in, you'll pass out from lack of oxygen. Let yourself breath naturally, and focus on your center of balance. If you know where you've got your weight and how you're holding it, it will be harder for them to take you off your feet."
Re: Beginner Mats
"And I'll try and keep it in mind, to keep breathing."
Re: Beginner Mats
She didn't get the impression that Liir hit people very often, but she wasn't going to assume it had never happened.
Re: Beginner Mats
"Leadcotton always said to power them with your legs, which didn't make sense at the time but I think I've figured out some of that recently. Though of course, that could be wrong. But that's who taught me."
Re: Beginner Mats
"We'll start with the elbow strike, then. An opponant will often expect a punch, so this gives you some freedom for unconventional situations," she said, falling into a stance beside him.
"The elbow and forearm make for great weapons. The key is to twist at the waist and throw all the weight and power of both your upper and lower body into the hit." Ghanima demonstrated it slowly for him, then sped it up. "When used correctly, the elbow can cause a lot of pain in the ribs, sternum, diaphragm, throat, groin... high damage on them, and low-impact for you."
Re: Beginner Mats
"Understood," he told her with a nod.
Re: Beginner Mats
Re: Beginner Mats
"Where would you like to start?" she asked. "Or, you can tell me what you know, and we can work from there."
Re: Beginner Mats
Re: Beginner Mats
Well, some people called it cheating, but Ghanima viewed it as using her options.
"Go ahead and try to kick me," she suggested. "I promise to dodge, but I want to see how you move first."
Re: Beginner Mats
And then she paused, waiting, as if to at least add some element of surprise to it before she darted in quickly, pulled back her leg, and went for the shin. It was the only move (other than circumnavigating in speech and deals) where she seemed to gain some grace, but Miss Atreides said she'd dodge, so she didn't bother holding back, because then it wasn't her fault if she actually did get her.
Re: Beginner Mats
"Very good," she approved. "You have an excellent sense of balance, and that will be very useful. We can pair that kick of yours with a few different hits, and you'll have a good base to start from."
Re: Beginner Mats
A missed kick was always a disappointment, no matter how much you expected it, and she let that moment happen before giving a firm nod. "That's what I'm hoping for. Kicking will only get you so far."
Re: Beginner Mats
"We'll give you a mean hook-punch, then," she responded. "Take a proper boxing stance: put both legs parallel to your shoulders, then bring your most dominant foot half a step back and slightly bend your knees. Both hands lined up a bit outside of your eyes and a few inches away from your face." Ghanima demonstrated, watching to see if Turtle would mimic her.
"Then you twist your body towards your dominant side, rotating your front foot as if you are squishing a bug. The spin will put more power behind the punch. Just be careful not to swing too far or too wildly, or you open yourself up to an attack to the face."
Re: Beginner Mats
"Like this?"
